November 7, 20214 yr Because the 3080 non ti is way way cheaper and almost as good, hardly any difference. And the 3090 he says has so much more VRAM then any game needs, by the time games need that much you will want a later card instead. 3080 ti is what he strongly recommends. However that was June 2021. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
November 7, 20214 yr I watched that. And I didn't care 😁 Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024
November 7, 20214 yr The problem is in some cases the 3080 is going for almost as much as the Ti now. Crazy but true. I had an option of a 3080 for $1695 or a 3080ti for $1799. Regularly the 3080 is now priced at what the 3080ti should have been priced at. Considering the 3080ti performs 13-15% better in most tests the extra $100 would be a no brainer. His video is relevant if everything was going for MSRP but it's still grab whatever you can get unfortunately and the price delta from 3080 to 3080ti can be nominal now based on what's in stock... My company is telling people we do not see a foreseeable improvement in 22 so I don't see things drastically turning around in terms of inventory. The best advice right now is if you don't need a GPU don't buy one. I figure I'd pay $400 over MSRP easy and that is through a reputable vendor not an ebay rip off. Hard to swallow and I did so well on the Alder Lake CPU and mobo I ended opting for just he CPU/mobo combo and will address GPU later. I had the $1800 3080ti on order but couldn't go through with it for the price. My 2080 Super with a G-Sync monitor will do for now. November 7, 20214 yr I watch Steven / Gamers Nexus videos a lot. In this specific case, his opinion doesn't make a lot of difference to me. I bought a 3080Ti in a flash sale a few months ago and I am really happy with it. I have seen them for £150 more now, so he isn't taking this into account for example. He also bangs on a lot about the 11900K being a waste of silicon. I understand why, but it isn't that bad if you can get it for the right price. On both issues - storm in a teacup and not much in it really. If you get fleeced buying a 3080Ti at £400 more than a 3080, then it is your own fault, or that paying the extra money isn't a big thing for you. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. November 7, 20214 yr In January 2022 Nvidia would introduce the RTX 3070 Ti 16GB and the RTX 3080 12GB. (guru3d.com) Raymond Fry.
November 7, 20214 yr Here in aus, currently there's about $200 difference between 3080 and 3080ti, and about $1,000 difference between 3080ti and 3090 Back in January 2021, average 3080 price was $1550 and average 3090 was $2900 (with the very cheapy brand one dropping to $2500 at one point) It makes my eyes water to look at the current prices of everything, yet every second person seems to own a 3090?! Folks obviously save money when in lockdown 👍 Edited November 7, 20214 yr by dogmanbird

That is the one I don't understand... Even if you got one at MSRP I can not see the price/performance numbers on a 3090 ever justifying themselves. Especially not for gaming. Best Buy over here has a pre-built on sale today with a 3080ti, i711700, M.2 and 16gigs of memory for $2,599. I figure if I could buy that, put my 2080 Super in that, keep the 3080ti for myself and then sell that system for $1500 with the 2080 instead of 3080 I "could" end up with a 3080ti for around $1,000 or MSRP. Might be do-able actually.. Hmmmm Edited November 7, 20214 yr by psolk Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
November 7, 20214 yr Sounds good to me 🙂 $2599 for the entire system - that's just the 3080ti for australians' 😢

Cancelled the stand alone 3080ti. @Fielder you "may" have just saved me $1000 if this all works out! I'm going to just turn around, swap out the GPU and sell the entire thing starting with bids at $1500 with an $1800 buy it now price. It will just have a 2080 instead of a 3080 so for the price it will be a killer system. I'll put the 3080ti into the Alder Lake build I have coming and someone here already messaged me about my i9 combo. November 7, 20214 yr @ psolk - hope it works out 👌 do you know what speed and timings the ram has? (often not mentioned in specs). I'd imagine 3200 of some sort Edited November 7, 20214 yr by dogmanbird

Worst case I paid $500 more for an entire system than I would have for just the GPU which makes me feel a "bit" better LOL!! They system was normally $3200 and on a one day dale for $2599. Makes it much more palatable! It's DDR 4 3200 but they don't give timings. Probably a higher latency memory but that's one of the few things you can upgrade cheaply if you wanted to.
