Like a little un' waiting for Christmas

Featured Replies

It seems that all of the addons I want are not quite there yet. They've all been announced but have not been released😢

DC-3
Twin Otter
Simple Traffic (no suggestions for AIG thanks)
Himalayas mesh

What are they waiting for? ( I think I know) SU7? DX 12? I do understand that MSFS has no real continuity between updates. This must make it incredibly difficult for 3rd party developers who don't want to be releasing patches a couple of weeks later. They have my sympathy.....but all the same pfff

....tap, tap, tap. Money to spend but can't spend it.

Are we nearly there yet?

Yours in barely contained anticipation,

Himalaya Mesh was announced Tuesday, perhaps you're a bit too impatient if you're already asking what they are waiting for.

Maybe on that one 🙂

My light hearted frustrations aren't really aimed at the 3rd party developers, this sim must be a nightmare for them, never knowing what to expect with each update.

Like most others (all if frank) I am not always a paragon of virtue, I do experience frustration.

A simple, inoffensive, and light hearted post, but there is always someone waiting to jump on you Gary!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Sounds like you're just a tad sensitive then 😉

Simple Traffic will be released on Monday (15th). The product page is already up

https://www.aerosoft.com/de/microsoft-flight-simulator/msfs-tools/3537/aerosoft-tool-simple-traffic

On the Himalayas, ORBX releases often quickly after announcement those days, it might be well released this weekend or the next one.

The Twin Otter may be hard to predict, but Aerosoft plane releases usually take a bit longer than expected.

Kind regards, Michael

I just want a quality 777 and 787.  QW and PMDG in MSFS and I don't think I'd ever revert to my other sim again.  Especially if David Rosenfeld puts out LLBG and I get a good KEWR.

So yes for me it is KEWR, LLBG, 777 and 787 and I would be in sim nirvana...  Oh yeah and opencockpit support for my HW modules 🙂

So much to be expectant for.  I used to do only tubeliners, but I am loving the 'bush' flying at the moment, and waiting for the Twin Otter, Kodiak, and the C337.  Probably too much other stuff to remember.

I will look at the PMDG 737 ands Fenix A320 when they land though.

Great point, my favorite for exploring right now is the H145...  There are things I am doing in MSFS I've never done in any sim before in terms of exploring, travelling off the beaten path etc etc.  This sim has really brought me so much further than point a to point b wioth two add-on airports in a tube liner at 39000 feet predominantly because almost anywhere I travel to I am just amazed by the default scenery.

I flew tubeliners for many years starting with the Level D 767, and then the PMDG 737.  One day, cruising along at 35,000 feet, watching the scenery slowly roll by, I decided that I was totally bored with following the magenta line, and watching the FMC fly the aircraft. I also flew all over the World on commercial airlines as part of my job, and I was bored with that too, usually bringing a book to read while on long flights. I then bought a bunch of A2A GA aircraft, and had so much more flying them than I was having flying the tubeliners, and have no interest in buying another tubeliner now. I like the DC6 because it is much more of a challenge to fly it correctly, and I can plan flights at altitudes around 10,000 feet, which allows me to see the great scenery in MSFS.

As Johnny Paycheck sang back in the 70's, Well you can:

Take this tubeliner and shove it

I ain't flying her no more

My DC-3 done left

and took all the reason I was flying for..

Thanks for that Bob. I Know what you mean 🙂

I've been doing forums for as long as they've been about so I know what to expect. I'm not an expert in the field of tech or software, in fact I try very hard not to be, I just enjoy flight sims. My field of expertise enables me to curb my competitive nature when I choose, it also gives me the tools to give as good as I get (+heaps) .......when I choose.

Back on topic:
Given the nature of Asobos method of developing this sim I am slightly concerned for the add on commercial developers. They have got to make profit. Endlessly releasing patches to compensate for changes which effect the core program eats into that profit. This in turn will be passed on to the consumer..........Waiting to see what the hell happens next before releasing an add on also effects the customer.

MSFS is cutting edge and it looks gorgeous but if you've been in a relationship for as long as I have you realise  (or your partner realises😉) that looks aren't everything, in fact you realise that looks aren't and weren't even the main thing.

I've played plenty of PC games in the past that in their time looked absolutely fantastic but unless they achieved consistency in depth they ultimately failed. A game  A flightsim backed by MS may be different but who knows.....

I don’t have any anticipation. With age, you take them as they come. My DC-6, warbirds (prop and jet) and Porter give me plenty to do. The Himalayas/Central Asia mesh is something I am glad to see coming as the F104. And of course the MV Porter variants.

Now my question is, is there a method 😄 ?

These constant Sim Updates (not talking of World Updates here) don’t make much sense to me. Looking back at the 15 months past, they seem more a palliative to the flaws of a innovative product premature release and shoehorning the code in the Xbox S than really developing a product further deep.

What are the improvements we have seen since August 18th, 2020, weather-wise or flight modeling-wise or  streaming- wise ? The only thing is an undeniable performance boost, a side effect of optimizing  the simulation to have it work in the the 6 GB of the S. Good to take but 6 updates and counting for that. Any other significant improvement came from the freeware community (avionics, A320).

This brownian motion activity of the MSFS team is not a synonym of improving the sim on the long run, lets remember that the FS has dramatically grown in quality products during the FSX often scorned « big freeze » because the  PMDG, A2A, Hifi, Orbx etc. had a stable platform to enhance/refine their know-how.

Let me be clear, this is not Asobo that is, for me, the cause but the very nature and handling of the project by Microsoft.

My speculation is that the price of addons should indeed  be higher for products with a decent support and followup - look at JF Hawk for instance sold at the same price across platforms or the Redwings Connie - and stay low for a second tier of fire-and-forget products, the proverbial « it is good for 10 bucks » aircraft.

As an user my wish is that they would stop updating after SU8 ... and prepare MSFS v2 😄.

MSFS is clearly not "just abut looks". What is so casually dismissed as "eye candy" is, in fact, a rendering of the world in real life via satellite streaming, which doesn't just look good --- it shows the actual structures with the correct footprints, as well as every road and street, all in their correct places. This is revolutionary in every sense of the word and places MSFS so far ahead of the competition it is over the horizon, as is clearly reflected in the stampede of third-party developers to MSFS. As for "relationships", this analogy strikes me as off-target. I am not in a relationship with Microsoft/Asobo, I am a user of their product. Very different thing.
