Oversized moon in v5.3

Featured Replies

The size of the moon in v5.3 is way too large. It and the sun are the same visual size but looking at this image the moon is way oversized. Moon bottom left.

Probably worth pointing this out to LM.

Some one else had already mentioned it in the P3D forums with a fix.

I have a completely clean install of 5.3 on a fresh Windows installation and the moon size is 900 in my config. I wonder if another addon has changed that for you Ray? I do have Envshade and Orbx Global installed but not any other 'global' products.

In the P3D thread it says to delete the suneffect.cfg. Where do I find that file? I can't find it.

C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3d v5

You may have to change your folder view options to "Show hidden files, folders, and drives".  Rename or delete the suneffect.cfg file. Start P3D V5 and it should rebuilt the file.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.

It might be SimStarterNG. I don’t have Envshade.

Its the "Mad Mad Moon"🙃

Intel® Core™ i9-13900KF - 24 Cores... Watercooling NZXT Kraken 240 RGB Black...MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK...Kingston Fury Beast RGB 128GB DDR5-5600...NVIDIA RTX 4090 24GB.

Ray it has to be something else. With 5.3 on my systems the sun and moon seem normal to me that is correct perspective. Currently on a flight from Stanley in the Falklands to Ushiasha  very Southerly latitudes, sun and moon are both visible and seem correctly sized and positioned to me that is moon is smaller and in correct phase for the month and Sun is not overly large but looks good to me.

That said, the night sky is terrible - that is covered on another thread. If I cannot locate the correct constellation or main stars easily whats the point?

The entry in suneffect.cfg was wrong. Once changed to the same size as the sun it appeared at its correct size. Gremlins! 😁

I don’t fly at night. Sounds like I’m not missing much.

Depends I guess about the night time stuff. I found the night flight last night in Iceland very pleasant indeed and the city lights etc on arrival at Reykyavik right down to short final were brilliant almost thought it was real! X-Wind on arrival was wicked though!
