Not Wanting to Stir the Pot, but why does Carenado …

Featured Replies

… only sell MSFS 2020 aircraft through the Marketplace? All other products for FSX, P3D and X-Plane can be purchased through their website. All Carenado products are now on sale on their site, many 50% off. No Carenado MSFS aircraft are on sale at the Marketplace!
Just wanting to know the logistics why you would not want to sell all your products at your main website?

Some weeks ago, the Carenado stuff was on sale at the market place.

Because DRM.

They have a contract with Microsoft.  I asked them early on.  Annoying because users are willing to fix their bugs but we can't due to fsarchive locked files.

Not saying this to be inflamatory...but reading directly from their site....

https://carenado.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360054637714-MSFS2020-Support

Since in this simulator we don't have control over the sales or installation systems, if you need support on this you should contact directly Microsoft using this link https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us and clicking "Submit a Request" in the upper right hand corner.

We as Carenado now can only solve developing issues, like if something is not working ok on the aircraft, or a bad texture or sound, but for installation or sales or refunds you should contact them.

This is all I can deduce from why they don't sell on their site....(in addition to what Ryan said...but I believe this in itself was the motivating factor)

Thanks guys! It is basically a contract with Microsoft that is dictating the current situation. More sales for Carenado through the Marketplace and they wipe their hands clean of problems that arise. Sort of like company profits and exposure through the Marketplace is the driving force before keeping customers happy and satisfied on a timely basis.

So other vendors must have a different contract allowing them to sell through different avenues?

Maybe vendors that are  exclusive on Market Place pay a lower commission to MS.

Probably something like that.  It is concerning though that even Carenado has expressed frustration about the Marketplace.

Yeah it may be a case of "Good idea at 1st"..but we didn't expect issues with our planes that are 5 min fixes would take a month to make it to the marketplace....kinda' thing.   I realize the Carenado folks are real people and don't like seeing their product being trashed in forums for things they can't control with an exclusivity contract with MS.  Gotta' wonder if they coulda' fast-forwarded to today and seen the KRAP-storm its created, would they have told MS "The heck with exclusivity...you can't even manage your own marketplace!  We'll sell our products on our site as well thank you.  You can keep the lower commission"  🙂

I thought the DRM on Market Place was secure for now? Are there pirated versions of Carenado MSFS products?

No.  We're just talking about the silly long update times for small bugs.  I've heard it can take weeks for updates and products to hit the marketplace.

Yea it takes way to long, but if it is the only way to avoid pirates that must weigh a lot in the decision making.
