Orbx TE Southern California, and also TE Washington...

Featured Replies

being that there is no seasonal change in Southern California,  if I bought TE Southern California, I would not be missing getting seasonal changes as one still could if under a Regional product.  So, if anybody owns this product...what are your critiques and comments regarding it?  Frankly, is it worth it over S.C. Regional as I already own?

Your thoughts, for I am having such a blast with v5.3 HF1 LF, that I am considering buying other T.E. 's that don't cover areas that see seasonal changes, like Florida that I already own... I figured that Southern Cali would be a good one as the area lacks Autumn, Fall and Winter topography changes. Also, do you have to uninstall Regional Southern California, if you want to install TE Southern California...and oh...just wondering...does anybody like TE Washington?   It's looks compared to the Regional product? I know that there are seasonal changes for Washington, but still would be interested in this one...

Hey Mitch,

I own all including OR and Northern Ca.

Being a life long CA resident, CA simply not a seasonal state for the most part, especially with the ten year drought going on.

If you live here you will notice the ‘red’ issue in certain areas that has been spoken about here at length. If you don’t live here, not so much.

I’m flying primarily GA these days with TE Wa, Or, N and S Ca. Works perfect for me along with ORBX airports. Wish I could get the 4.5 Orbx GA traffic program into 5.3 Posted that over at their forums and no answer. I’ll take that as a no. 😞

Does True Earth Northern California still have the "silly" version of the Bay Bridge, or has that been addressed?

Hello...I was part of the beta testing team for these and personally love them under 5.3....particularly after the help with an AffinityMask in a different post that has made P3Dv5 by far the smoothest running sim I own.

In the Orbx screenshots forum I posted some trip pictures from this AM...took the Citation from Orbx’s Burbank to Orbx Palm Springs through TrueEarth Los Angeles at about 50-60 FPS with maybe 2 long frames the whole trip, the rest was perfectly and eerily smooth (I’m used to all of my sims stuttering or jittering or otherwise driving me nuts and I own them all).

Note that I had no AI traffic and minimal vehicle AI for this adventure, sliders sort of in the middle at 2560 resolution, and that I had these sceneries installed on a SSD (though I tried a TrueEarth GB flight this AM off HDD and it, too, was smooth.  I think it’s that Affinitymask which I always wanted to believe in now do.

Orbx’s coloring isn’t perfect but is very consistent and I like the bespoke POIs of key landmarks mixed with autogen.

I didn’t pay for these TE P3Dv5 sceneries, but If faced with the choice today I would definitely buy them...I just can’t live without photo imagery now that I was addicted.

Washington and Oregon are very nice, did a 60 FPS trip from PDX to BFI in the Shorts 360 yesterday and only dropped to 42 FPS when on approach to the Drzweicki airports.

The XP11 versions are gorgeous too, but I can’t yet make my XP11 run as silky smooth as P3Dv5 (and it was a nightmare for me pre 5.3 but is my favorite sim at the moment).

Well, I was born in Phoenix, AZ but spent most of my young and teenage life living in the Valley, in Encino and Van Nuys, and then Malibu.  So how bad is this red tinge?  Can you post me a pic of any area that shows this, in your opinion. So, I take it you like TE Washington? No red hue there for terrain?   Would you say that Southern California has less of this red hue, then TE Northern California?  I'm really enjoying TE Florida in v5.3 HF1 LF, so...the finger is tapping on the computer desk...and I view Orbx Central...(smile....).

Thanks,

Thank you for this.  I have all of the XP11 TE sceneries and yes, they are fabulous in XP11.   To be honest, I bought TE Florida when still running with P3D v4.5, and with some stuttering, and such, just wasn't thrilled with the product (obviously not the actual product's fault, but that with v4.5 and my system specs and in sim settings).  Not at all, now, with v5.3 HF1 LF.  I in fact, have been doing most of my flying over the last holiday week, from the Keys to Miami, which with v4.5 brought the FPS down to it's knees, with all the sliders to the right as I love to fly.  With v5.3?  Stays at a fluctuating 27-33 FPS, right over KILLER Downtown Miami, or near Miami International.   So...I figure that buying any other T.E. running in the current version (LF) is a good bet to create smiles. I'll look at your posting for sure!

Thanks again to everybody for their input. It goes a long way to help other user's make purchasing decisions!!!!!!!

It’s only in certain areas and I’ve come across no red in either WA or OR that I ve seen. Give TE Norcal a try, it’s currently on sale for 30 bucks. You’ll like it.

I was looking at Washington, but Central says that I have lots of scenery that needs to be uninstalled before it will run! It also says that I already own it...LOL...and nope, I don't...so can't get past that as it comes up ERROR...

Will take a look at both Southern and Northern Cali.... 😉

You should just be able to run TE Washington on it's own . No need for the OpenLC PNW anymore plus Vector is not needed anymore also .

Hi Christopher...I just installed TE Northern California this afternoon and headed north from KSQL and a nice Golden Gate Bridge is in place...AND the Salesforce building downtown I noticed that is missing from some sceneries.

Since I have ORBX trees does the Teraflora add anything more? Is there any point in adding the Teraflora to ORBX trees or are these just two different addons that basically does the same thing?

John, I own all of the West Coast Orbx properties --->PNW, North Rockies, Fjords, South Alaska, so I imagine that that is what Central is squawking about, lol.  I don't run Vector in v5.3 HF1 LF, but did in prior's.  I'll have to see again what the north and south limits are of Washington...interesting that it (Orbx Central) says that I have to first uninstall products, rather than T.E. Washington just commandeers the square miles....but obviously for the need to uninstall products first, it apparently does not.
