January 12, 20224 yr Any advice for running DX12? The first thing I found was a recommendation to turn-off exploitation protection, but does anyone else have any other tips? Before Christmas I ran MSFS quite smoothly in DX11 having found DX12 reduced performance for no apparent gain. But I changed my ancient 1080 monitor for a new 1440 freesync screen and found DX12 practically doubled my frame rates but introduced loads of stutters (especially at low level). I also updated video drivers but had to go back as the latest Nvidia drivers appear to include hashrate limiters. I've also upgraded to Windows 11 ( but that doesn't seem do you have made any difference to anything other than to provide an interface to confuse everyone). I've also tried running with Windows defender and firewall disconnected, but neither made any difference). If anyone has found any tweaks or settings for DX12, pleaae post here. January 12, 20224 yr Why? What is the point of running DX12? There's no advantage to be had as far as I know.

January 12, 20224 yr is it because of the freesync? So does it matter that a monitor has that feature? I thought it's prettymuch reluctant what monitor you use for flightsim. even 60hz is enough and more won't bring any benefit I thought.

Maybe I'll give it another go.

I think I tried it at 60hz but it didn't help the stutters or framerates. Also, it seems that the monitor will only allow G Sync at 120hz. January 12, 20224 yr As for the 120Hz, what monitor are you using and is it connected via HDMI or Displayport? If HDMI, DIsplayport should get you to 144 or higher.

January 12, 20224 yr DX12 seems to be more trouble than it's worth. A couple of aircraft including two I fly all the time, have CTDs when using DX12. Glad I didn't bother with it.
January 12, 20224 yr DX12 is still in its infancy/beta with lots of buggs, I currently do not see any advantage, only troubles. January 12, 20224 yr This is normal, Asobo you said it is a preview just like DX10 was at the time of the release of FSX. Waiting wisely DX12 will improve in future SU. Since nobody else is finding this, I am feeling pretty confused. I did not want to run DX12 as It didn't run great in 1080 and as I was having performance issues in 1440, I just enabled DX12 and was shocked by the FPS increase (though it is a bit of a stutterfest). It's a bit of a puzzle to say the least as nobody else seems to be getting such an FPS jump in DX12 (or an FPS halving in DX11 if you want to look at it that way). So I seem to have a choice of a smooth 20 FPS (DX11) or a stutterfest of 40 FPS (DX12). If anyone else's system was displaying such an anomaly, I probably wouldn't question it, but I am currently at a bit of a loss to work out what is going on.
