Old monitor 60 hz.  New monitor 165 hz max but running in 120 hz

Have you tried vsync 20 to see if it caps at 55fps?

might have to lower your settings and change flight parameters if your rig struggles to reach those FPS.

Oh yes fellow red, I'm gradually coming to that opinion as things stand, but after 3 weeks of hassle with all of this, Microsoft has now decided to delete my entire installation including community folder of over 150 UK items plus hundreds of addons for other countries  I was not using, so my attention is now turned to reinstalling the entire sim and rebuilding my addons libraries.

I'm just hoping at the moment that MS has not also deleted all of my settings and logbook, which I understood was stored in the cloud.  I guess I will find out in the morning after msfs downloads overnight.

To say that I feel more than a bit peed off at the moment is an understatement.

At last managed to solve the problem.  It seems that whilst I needed all the anti aliasing I could get at 1080, I hardly need any at 1440.

I defaulted all my msfs and nvidia settings and worked back from there.  I now have better visuals and almost as high fps in 1440 as I did in 1080.

Back using DX11, but may give DX12 another look.

Bojote has to tweak that 🙂

The 1st time to try dx12 beta and I got a CTD. I will try again to see if fps are better than dx11.

Update. I managed to get it running without a CTD with the default c172 classic and fps were pretty much the same as with dx11.

I am getting around a half of the framerates I would expect in DX11

That is bizzare! My system spec is almost identical to yours bar the GPU where mine is a 3080 yet I've noticed zero difference between DX11 and 12, except 12 being more problematic.

What aircraft are you testing with?

Care to share your msfs and nvidia settings?

Nvidia 511.65 driver at default settings and ultra settings in msfs.  I even put the lod slider up to 300 and render scaling at 110.  Getting 50-60 FPS in the cruise and 30-40 FPS on or near the ground.

I am also using V sync locked at 30 FPS which takes a bit of the load off of the GPU and makes it run a bit smoother as I noticed that whilst I was previously CPU bound, after moving up to 1440 I became GPU bound.

Thanks. So you're vsync on and frame rate limit to 30 in msfs?

Essentially the same settings on the AMD side. Leave the nvidia control panel /radeon software essentially default (I do use freesync though so that's on) and within the sim enable vsync and for me im effectively locked at 50 fps which will still operate my freesync but not have the GPU need to ramp all the way up to silly numbers.

DX12 is terrible for me. Stutters so bad it is unusable. I can't figure out why that would be with a rig like mine. DX11 is smooth as can be at highest settings.

Because Asobo hasn't optimized MSFS for DX12 yet.  Just use DX11 for this year.  Microsoft/Asobo will tell us when they start implementing specific optimizations for DX12.
