January 24, 20224 yr So, I just bought the Kodiak today and it’s great! This is all default without any mods, by the way. I had been reading all the threads on it and for my first flight I set the elevator trim forward 45 degrees and the right rudder trim about 1/4 to the right. Took off and had to actually use left rudder to keep the plane aligned and once airborne it was completely uncoordinated requiring lots of left rudder to keep it from slipping. Due to not having rudder trim set on my yoke and a weird view point I went heads down to remove the rudder trim and lost control and crashed. Not due to the rudder trim but me not paying attention. I then restarted the flight without any rudder trim and it only required a little right rudder to keep it aligned on the runway and once airborne the only rudder was a bit in the turns to keep it coordinated. So, am I right that the prior instruction to add right rudder trim is no longer required after the last patch?
January 24, 20224 yr try turning off your winds and then try flying again. IMO no, you no longer need to use right rudder trim for takeoff...you'll need right rudder for takeoff but I use my foot. Once in cruise I've noticed I always need to use about 5or 6 clicks of LEFT rudder trim to keep thing coordinated...and also some right aileron trim (iim using default weights and not adding any Px or cargo to default loadout). I have no idea why this plane would require left rudder trim for cruise, but it does. Would be nice if a RW Kodiak pilot could explain this aspect. January 24, 20224 yr Author I only had a 2 knot quartering headwind and was doing circuits. Very enjoyable I might add, better than in any other prop in MSFS so far. I’ve yet to take it out of the pattern, will have to see if any trim is required traveling cross country later. Thanks for your feedback,

My Kodiak needs about 5 clicks of right rudder with normal load. and once in cruise I go back to neutral trim and it stays coordinated. The Missionary Pilot uses heavy right rudder trim on takeoff.
January 24, 20224 yr Ive noticed the same thing, Like you i also just purchased the kodiak, I was expecting a huge amount of rudder trim to be required on takeoff but it wasn't the case.. Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.

Bob, I’m sure you’ve installed the latest patch, my version is default brand new - unmodded straight from Orbx - I wonder why the difference in the need for rudder trim on your part? Are you using any rudder on takeoff at all or is the trim doing all the work? I ask because maybe Missionary Bush Pilot is using it to ease up the right rudder but not necessarily out of need. Sort of what we may do to make our jobs easier, but not necessarily required, maybe?

The aircraft flies great as it is, and the Missionary Pilot who has dozens of Youtube videos flying a real Kodiak, uses about the same trim as I do. When you add rudder trim on takeoff in any plane, that is to reduce the amount of rudder force needed to keep the aircraft coordinated. It is just good piloting skills. I always need a bit of rudder depending on the wind, pitch, and power settings.

So to be clear you’re still flying the default flight model prior to the hotfix that reduced the “Excessive yaw caused from P-factor and propwashl” (quote from SWS)?
January 24, 20224 yr Version 1.4 is the latest. Check if that is your version too. Menno i7-11700, 16GB, 1 TB SSD, 2 TB HDD, RTX 3070, Windows 11, MSFS 2020 DeLuxe, P3D 4.5
January 24, 20224 yr I keep it straight with my foot, no problems at all, I doesn't feel that it needs more right rudder than other single-engine aircraft at take off. System: I ASRock X670E | AMD 7800X3D | 64Gb DDR5 6000 | RTX 4090 | 2TB NVMe | Seasonic Vertex 1000W I LG Ultra Gear 34 UW I

January 24, 20224 yr Where do you find the version number. I updated shortly after release with a patch, but nothing since. Has another patch been released ? Mark CYYZ
