Hi there,

This month we are releasing a series of development update NOTAMs. You can read the first in the series, discussing the FMS and VNAV, here:
https://flybywiresim.com/notams/cfms-vnav/

Please stay tuned in the coming weeks!

Interesting, question @Watsi how the external process will run in order to feed the Navdata to the sim? Is it through the Installer? Meaning we will have to leave it ON in case we want to use the Navigraph database?

I am also wondering, why in order to use Navigraph database an external process has to run? Is it a design decision to allow the FBWA320 to use the default database as well as the Navigraph database (I would assume a lot of folks will be unhappy if FBW will require the paid Navigraph database)?

Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand your question. The FBW A32NX just uses the MSFS database for its FMS/MCDU. You can use Navigraph AIRACs for MSFS. Then the A32NX will have the same (navigraph) data. No need to have the Navigraph Navdata Center to be always active in the background. You only need it / have to use it, when updating the current AIRAC (in MSFS).

I'm pretty sure he's talking about this part of the announcement ;)

This has been accomplished by first designing the system based on how it works in real life, not only in terms of day-to-day operations, but also in terms of its internal workings. Integrating this into the simulator was the second step, rather than the priority. The new code is fully unit-tested and can run externally to the simulator - it indeed possesses two backends, one interfacing with MSFS and another connecting to a server providing data from an external source.

While the ability to run outside of MSFS is a big advantage, the main reason for this is to give users the ability to use an external service, such as Navigraph’s Navdata Center, to directly obtain navigational information for certain functionality that MSFS does not provide (even with third-party navdata installed in the Community folder), like published holds, while the simulator adds them as updates come. This is, of course, entirely optional, and the aircraft can still run 100% in the simulator if you do not enable this (with all the benefits listed below still present).

The last sentence is the key. 🙂

Thank you for the NOTAM @Watsi and the continued development of the aircraft. It’s exciting to see what future updates will bring, what the pan is and what’s going on in the background. The FMGS and VNAV updates sound very nice. You guys keep elevating the aircraft to new levels

Excellent, thank you guys for this - this whole effort is really amazing.

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

Yes thank you! Great stuff. Especially the recent webserver MCDU update works great. Having the MCDU on a touchscreen ipad is a great feature

Thank you!

How will it run externally, will this interface be embedded into the installer or it will be a separate application like the FMC server?

Well done FBW, the A320nx just gets better and better.

It will be through Navigraph Navdata Center, which will integrate a local server for our use (among with other upcoming aircraft that share this new system we have developed).

Is my reading comprehension terrible or did they not give an ETA for VNAV? Not complaining, I'm just curious as I haven't felt like using the FBW yet because I have FSL but VNAV might make me want to try it at least.

I don't think there has been a date given, but usually when they say a new feature is coming, it's usually a matter of days to a week or so.

Just did a flight with the new version. Now has Top of Decent/drooping control surfaces when hydraulics off/better frame rates, just an amazing peace of aircraft for the ridiculous amount of FREE!

Don't know what the controversy is, but I am using Navigraph for a long time with the FWB.

Anyways, thanks so much for this piece of art, much appreciated!!!

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

Seriously. It really makes me stop to think how much competition 3PD developers will be up against when a small group of talented people want to create an open-source project for free, just because they like the challenge. Look how good the FBWA320 is right now and how much they want to improve. At want point to you become less interested in the Fenix and just keep holding out and enjoying new features as they're released with the FBW?
