Hi guys,

I am recently thinking to get some third party terrain mesh for P3D V5, but not sure if it's needed or not.

I mainly fly in Europe and South/North America, and have ORBX openLC packs for those areas. Checking around I saw there is a free global terrainmesh called freemeshx, and then a payware FS Global Ultimate. 

Could you please advise which one is better (in terms of quality?) for P3D V5? The last time I used FS Global 2010, but that was in the FS9 days.. 

Considering freemeshx is freeware I'm also curious what advantages (if any) the paid one has over it.

I have purchased FS Global mesh for P3D.  It is quite good although I am not convinced it is better than Freemesh.

You may want to consider Toposim (https://www.toposim.net/). I use it and find it extremely detailed.

As far as mesh is concerned, I would think that the terrain mesh resolution is what is important. So far, I have not seen any figures stated for any of the products mentioned in this thread. I think that FreeMesh X is rendered at 38m (which seems rather low resolution to me, but then it does cover the entire globe).

Mesh is really necessary in v5? i thought it wasn't...

Absolutely considering the resolution of the default mesh.

I’ve had Pilot’s Global for many years in its various guises. Mountain ranges like the Swiss Alps are transformed.

Have a lifetime membership with toposim and have been very happy with their product line.

+1 for PILOT'S FS Global Ultimate mesh.
Pricey, but good.

A value option is Toposim (their Planet Earth bundle is currently 2/3 the price of PILOT'S, but the add-on is also only 2/3 the size).

Just to confirm these are compatiable with V5?

How high or low should FS Global be in the hierarchy of the scenery cfg ?

Toposim is fully compatible. BTW, the resolution for their non-Ultramesh products ranges from 19 to 5 meters and for Ultramesh it is 2.3 meters.

I downloaded freemeshx for now, as there are a few airports that are higher on the shopping list as the impact of those are higher to immersion.

Is there a very big difference to the naked eye with freemeshx compared to FS Global and Toposim during tubeliner flighs? In Europe I was fine most of the time even with default as it's relatively flat, but in South America mountain ranges are everywhere. 

EDIT: I just saw toposim is offering a daily freeware which is UK for now, so I am downloading this to try it out.

I keep getting this error massage in various numbers (41/28 and others) and it keeps rolling back just like Fenice

I followed the install and it activates just fine then right before the execution it crash

Is there a different way to install it

This is how I do it and it never works

Please download all files and place them in a single new directory (folder). Do NOT name
this directory (folder) "FSGUNG2020". 

MAKE SURE the 8 BIN files (listed below!) are downloaded as BIN files. Some download managers save
them as ZIP files! You must in that case rename them back to *.BIN or the installation will fail!

However, you must probably first make file extentions visible in explorer in order to change
the file extentions. 

Google please, if you are not familiar how to do that

Then unzip "FSGUNG2020.zip" into that directory (folder). Make sure you really unzip
into the directory (folder) where the BIN files reside. Pilots.setup.exe and the BIN files
must reside in the same directory (folder) or the installation will fail!

Then read manual (in directory DOC) and readme files BEFORE commencing installation! 

Then run "Pilots.Setup.exe" as administrator. 

Keep files safe for future installations!

Installation errors:
Please find the hash values of the large files below.

If you experience file reading errors errors, google, download and install "hashtab" to compare 
values with those of the files you downloaded!

If you find differences, please redownload this file
and check again!
