February 17, 20224 yr G-sync/Freesync screen, LG 27GL83A. All set to default in Nvidia Control Panel. Checking Vsync and 30fps (tried 60 as well). Screen still says 144hz and the fps is like there was not Vsync on at all. What could be wrong?
February 17, 20224 yr If VSync active ingame, then GSync/Freesync Will not work. VSync active ingame at 60fps = Feed the monitor Up to Max refresh of the monitor, so Up to 144fps. VSync active ingame at 30fps = Feed the monitor with half the Max refresh rate, so Up to 72fps on your display. Now the question is, Can your system maintain more than 72fps to achieve a good image with VSync on? Looks like the answer is NO and you are way below the Minimum refresh rate supported by your monitor, maybe less than 48fps
February 17, 20224 yr You have a G-sync monitor and a Nvidia gfx card, so WHY would you even bother with vsync?! Just disable it completely and make sure gsync is activated in Nvidia Control Panel. You might need to enable both windowed and fullscreen mode. Depends if MS2020 uses true fullscreen mode. Then make sure your fps stays above the minimum required for gsync to work, probably >30fps. Tweak your game settings to achieve this. Problem solved.
February 17, 20224 yr The V-sync and frame limiter in game are labeled for TV monitors that run at 60 hz, 60 equals your monitor’s refresh rate, 30 half your monitor’s refresh rate and 20 a third, so for example, if you select in game VSync at 20 with your 144hz monitor you will lock your frames at 48fps. Just to be pedantic, the OP's monitor is not a G-SYNC monitor but rather an Nvidia certified G-SYNC Compatible monitor. A G-SYNC Compatible monitor is one which allows NVIDIA graphics cards to use variable refresh rates (VRR) in monitors that lack the dedicated G-SYNC chip. Nvidia certifies that the Compatible monitor will work without issue in this case. In contrast the Free SYNC monitor works in G-SYNC mode but may have problems with VRR. My one for example has a small amount of ghosting and is not certified by Nvidia to be G-SYNC Compatible. It still runs in G-SYNC mode though. Anyway, I agree 100 percent with your post @neumanix. With that monitor, the OP should just turn V-SYNC off!! Cheers Terry No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea. Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower! February 17, 20224 yr Acutally, the general consensus is to have V-SYNC on while having GSYNC enabled. What important is, in general it is better to turn vsync on on Nvidia Control Panel while having off in Game. Good reference can be found on this page (I would say the bible in terms of graphic settings): https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/14/

Why on earth do that? My monitor runs at 25, 30, 50 or 60 Hz natively. So if I set it at 50hz, then vsynced at 60 in the SIM is actually vsynced at 50?! Only the French could think that was logical 🤣 Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS

Asobo just need to change the terminology. It is a bit of an oversight, and I actually think they know this but it is just not a priority for them at the moment - it really shouldn't take them long to just change the terminology though - maybe nobody, or not enough people have asked them yet. Instead of 60, 30 , and 20 Hz, it should say full v-sync (synced to your monitor refresh rate), half v-sync (like the Nvidia control panel setting), and a third v-sync instead of being labelled as 20. February 17, 20224 yr I have a free sync monitor and I find the best smoothness when I set in game vsync to 30fps. On a good day, it’ll hold 37fps, even when set to 30fps… no idea why but it works. All other settings, including off, introduce a lot of stutters for me. / CPU: Intel i7-9700K @4.9 / RAM: 32GB G.Skill 3200 / GPU: RTX 4080 16GB / Freight Pilot

Good reference can be found on this page (I would say the bible in terms of graphic settings): https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/14/ I just followed the guidance on that page and at Ultra settings I have a very smooth display at an average of 60fps (lowest high 40s, highest 70 plus). I didn't previously use the latency or limit framerate settings, but that guide suggests both on (fps limited to 4 frames below the monitor refresh rate). The guide also says Latency set to ON if you are not likely to exceed your monitor refresh rate, which nobody will with MSFS. The guide also recommends the mouse polling rate at 1000Hz which I also set. Previously I had V-Sync on in MSFS set at 20, so a steady 40fps with my 120Hz monitor. At an average of 60fps the aircraft feel so much smoother and react to the weather in a more realistic way. Also maintaining height/trim is also easier and feels more realistic. An excellent guide and has worked wonders on my system so thanks for the link! You are not limiting your fps to 30 - you are setting it to half your monitors refresh rate. 60 = monitor refresh rate. 30 = half monitor refresh rate 20 = A third of your monitor refresh rate. Try the guide and follow it precisely, including Latency. To avoid tearing if you get high FPS and go above your monitors refresh rate. That is NEVER going to happen with a 144 HZ screen and MSFS, unless you're running bare minimum settings over the desert. So, if you are running G-Sync in MSFS, DISABLE V-SYNC. If you enable V-sync in game, it will stop G-Sync working, and if you enable V-Sync in the nvidia control panel, it will do absolutely nothing unless you're above 144 fps (on a 144HZ monitor). Either way, both options aren't needed for MSFS.
