Best quality helicopter?

Featured Replies

I vote for the Flyinside Bell 47. It is the least flaky helicopter and it works great every time. Plus, it is ideal for MSFS if you fly to enjoy the scenery thanks to the great visibility. I have all the helicopters, but I always go back to the Bell 47 and I’m never disappointed with its behaviour. I still try the others at times, but I do think the flight model of the Bell 47 is the most trouble free.

Gorgeous!  If you're gonna pull some helicopter heist at the Bellagio, watch out for Terry Benedict!

For me - the most realistic representation of a helicopter is the MI8MTV2 in DCS. Without any doubt - studylevel. Not so good in DCS - the simulation of VRS (Vortex ring state). Esp. Huey and MI8 suffering in this regard.

For the visuals - MSFS. Enjoy our beautiful world.

Easiest done with the H145. Like IRL most hassle free because highly sofisticated.

Best regards

Detlef

Not quite up to the levels of super-realism in DCS, but still very good, is the Bell 47G. I did a review of it back when it first came out if you are curious about it:

Worth a look too, if you are a bit of a rotorhead, is this helicopter sim which I also reviewed. It feature the Robinson R22, hence the song at the start:

Well I just bought the HPG145, and for the last two-hours have failed 100% to install it. I've done everything except buy it dinner and get it drunk. It will not show up in-game. I have no doubt it's my fault, I'm no rocket surgeon, but by god and his angels this is THE LAST time I ever buy anything without an installer. I buy through the Marketplace or ORBX and it's Pay + Click = Fly. This is just ARRRRGGGHHHH!

I'll give it another two-hours and see what happens. On the plus side, all the reviews say it's a great module and I really am looking forward to flying it.

More coffee...... 😒

Finally. it's in. 😐

I'll cite the installation and authentication of the chopper as... "Could you please make an installer next time?"

But the chopper itself looks excellent, inside and out, and after a quick minute of flying and crashing, it's obvious this is a very nice module. There looks to be some mighty good flying to be had with it.

Off to a good start but you are not done until you've set up the custom control mappings to support cyclic and collective beep trim etc., unless that's what you spent the 2 hours doing.  Without that, you're not experiencing the H145 for the benefits it brings.  It's covered in the documentation fairly well but requires some forethought as to controller setup.  Really well worth doing because after that you have some amazing capabilities available. Happy flying!

Thanks. Unfortunately all that time was just getting the chopper installed. Again, I'm sure it was my lack of working neurons, but it was anything but Point & Click.

I'm sure setting up the controls will be no fun at all. I've managed my HOTAS with the choppers in DCS and it's just fine. But I find setting controls in MSFS to be a freaking byzantine mess. That will be the next step.

As a final note: Wow!

What a fantastic chopper. All the little details add up to an excellent experience. MSFS really comes alive with this thing. Not sure I'll ever fly an airplane again. Between the quality of the module and how it lets you enjoy the terrain and the scenery, the fun factor and eye candy is excellent. The best part is to jettison the doors, let that rotor sound into the cockpit, and tear around at treetop level. What a blast.

Thank you to anyone who recommenced it and I pass along those recommendations. Excellent module and worth every penny.

As a HYPE customer I'd like to state that these guys are constantly updating their products with new features or fixes.   They never rest.

On the subject of the Bell vs the Airbus,  one is FBW and one isn't.   Hard to make a direct comparison between the two FM's.
