Best quality helicopter?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've been out of the FS2020 game for quite a while and I don't know what's what. I'd like to know if there is a particular helicopter, payware is fine, that is clearly the best quality, especially as far as the flight model goes. I've been flying lots of choppers in DCS and I'd like to bring it over to FS2020.

Thank you.

Hype is currently the best payware. They have a freeware H-135 also. There are others around but i prefer the H-145 because it's just amazing. The HEMS/SARs is due out next month. The base pack gives you Luxury Standard and Military versions with rockets and guns. The new addon coming up will allow for rescues with winch etc.

FlyInside Bell 47G no question about it.

Hype H145 *is* very good but is a less accurate-feeling rotary wing experience IMO,

But the Bell 47G is a Volkswagen Bug with the bare minimum for the hairy-chested helicopter pilot experience to practice your autorotations and build a great skill set, whereas the H145 is a Bugatti Veyron with autopilot and every possible trimming for comfy cross-country flying with no muss no fuss and arriving in style.  Complete opposite ends of the spectrum.   You really need both! 😁

Note that rotary wing is not currently natively modelled in the sim (it is on the "to do" list)  so they all sort of "emulate" true helicopter flight. That said some do a really good job of "emulating" something tht is not natively supported by the sim.

That a shame. I think I've been spoiled by the DCS choppers. They're expensive, but they are really, really good. The new Apache is a blast, but figuring out the trim is a problem for a lot of people.

And thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to check out some videos of those choppers.

I think the Robinson R44 with AirlandFS model is the best flight model in MSFS.

@CanadaOne in case you do not know, "AirlandFS" is an add-on you can download that certain MSFS helo's can use for the flight model.

Much appreciated. The AirlandFS looks good. Though I have to admit I like the looks of the H145. I like my bells and whistles. I really have been spoiled by the DCS choppers. Not sure if anyone here is flying them, but the Apache, only been out for a week, is stunning. The FLIR system on the helmet mounted display makes for the most incredible night flying you can imagine.

But in FS2020 it's all about the terrain. I was watching some chopper videos over FS terrain and it looks like a ton of fun.

Nah yeah you want the H145 then.  It'll have the sophistication and avionics that you're used to.  Be sure to set the special beep trim settings up per the manual, it is a little involved and takes some time and planning but then you are able to wring all the capability out of this great machine.  Being able to switch to GTC.H (autohover hold mode) right after lifting off, and then to a forward flight with standard autopilot / flight director mode and use the trim buttons to dial in your airspeed, altitude and heading is really novel for helo flying and just what you need for some great scenic flights in MSFS.  I covered quite a bit of ground in southern Chile with it and had a great time.

Lots of good liveries for it over at the .to as well.

If you'd like to hear more about our H145, I find this to be one of the best videos around.

You can disregard the VR comments (unless that's your thing) - the video itself is from the regular desktop perspective.

That looks pretty tasty. I know I keep babbling about DCS, but the quality of the planes and choppers there have completely ruined me and now I want only the best eye candy and tech toys. I'm willing to pay for it, but it has to be gooood.

I think the H145 is my next purchase. I can see some nice long enjoyable flights in that thing.

I agree.  It makes me wish I had a helicopter control setup.

Nice, I have some great friends that live in St. Pete - I'm very envious, so laid back.

I never flew a chopper in any civil flight sim that could hold my attention prior to flying the H145, it's just such a blast.
