MilViz Beaver Broken in V5.3?

Recommended Posts

Posted

With "spring in the air" I thought I would fire up the MilViz Beaver and fly out of YSE down to W33 (Friday Harbor). First time this new year.

There were a lot of things that did not work!!! I was unable to move the Prop lever, even though FSUIPC saw the lever and knew when it moved. The Starter switch does not work. Panel lights do not work.

Did something break while I was away flying in the Southern Hemisphere? I tried a search the forums, but AVSIM said I could not execute, I think due to system load?

I know MilViz is out of the Prepar3D commercial business, but last time I used the Beaver it was fine in P3D5.2.

Thanks!

Howellerman - not that I can tell. I just finished reinstalling it back in P3DV5.3. I tet the Milviz installer run using the P3DV4-P3DV5 hack, then moved it all out of there into a MILVIZ addon folder with the Otter. It all ran fine and no issues that I can tell. You might need to run the Milviz fix or patch xml installer again just in case - if you do not have it you can find it at the Milviz site.

I have the same problem with the Otter. It worked until the last P3DV5.3 update then broke again. Bad taste for Milviz. I just reinstalled FSX-Steam for a retro sim to tool around with some of the oldies. I like to mess around with some of the Calclassic props and retro sceneries, LevelD 767-300 and other aircraft that never will be seen in V5. I do my "serious study level"😏 simming in V5.3.

Make sure that when you installed 5.3 that you made sure all needed Simconnects were restored. I had this problem on a number of planes. This fixed all that were fixable.

Well, this went from bad to worse.

I re-installed the base Beaver package and found that the entire cockpit was now black.

Oh, I thought to myself, I forgot to update the Expansion Pack. So, I updated that from the MilViz forums and executed.

Nothing. I have nothing. The Expansion Pack installation wiped the Beaver off my system. When I try to re-install the base pack I get only three messages that are delivered in 1 second. Nothing.

First the Vertx DA-62 and now the Beaver, two of my favorite low-and-slow aircraft. I think my system needs a mind-wipe, beyond the SFC and DSIM commands.

Thanks for the help, guys, but I think there are deeper issues at play here...  😞

Do you guys have the version only available via the Milviz Forum? The latest and only version working for P3D5 is dated 210720 and can be downloaded from the specific support forum http://milviz.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=137

Also make sure in MVAMS app to select no weather radar and the gps, you have installed. I just use the default, since F1 GTN has not been updated for HF2.  So if you have WXRadar required or F1 GTN gauges, it will not work, even crash.

I installed it again today because the propeller pitch axis did not work on my system, defined for all engines. It needs to be set to engine 1 only. Otherwise everything works fine.

Thanks for the response, Dan.

I will give it another try this evening and report back. With regards to prop pitch, I had originally set it to Axis Prop Pitch 1, but when that did not work set it to Axis Prop Pitch. That too did not work.

I ran out of patience last night - will try again with a refreshed mood. Although I am going to start my taxes today, so it may all be for nothing...   🙂

I could fix the prop pitch problem: Set Propeller axis again to the general Propeller Axis Event. Then in FSUIPC recalibrated the Propeller axis, selecting Map to 4. You can get this option by pressing the reset before you calibrate.

My problem is the oil pressure never comes up and the engine seizes up after a few seconds. This is the Otter.

You have to pump it up. (Manual)

@blaunarwal sorry to bring up an old 2 year old post. I can start the Otter, but it quickly dies from no oil pressure.

I've been looking for the pump and can't find it. Not sure if you were serious or not. There is a primer, but that is for the fuel pressure. I've looked through the manual, but can't find anything relating to low oil pressure - aside from one sentence saying 'if pressure doesn't rise, stop the engine and investigate the issue.'

Thanks,

colin

@rowcoach Below the steering colum, middle left with the red ball on it or just right of the left seat pedals. This is the pump. Check fuel is full open, propeller full forward, on the right of the colum the handle with the black disk must be down (cut fuel with middle click), magnetos both on. Pump several times with the mouse, the press the starter, increase throttle a little to keep the engine running. Wait until the engine is warmed up. Dan

Good morning, @blaunarwal Thank you for the quick reply. I got pretty excited for a moment. I think your picture is from the Milviz Beaver. Which makes sense as that was what the original topic was. Patco Lch had asked about the Otter. That's the plane I can start, but the engine stalls for what I'm assuming is a lack of oil or fuel.

@Patco Lch were you able to get the Otter off the ground? Like you, I can get the engine started. It'll run for a minute or two, but the oil pressure light never goes out. The fuel pressure drops and the oil pressure never goes above 0. I've reinstalled the XMLTools64, but that didn't seem to do anything different.
