No hotfix demands or upgrade demands!

Things must be going pretty well for us with P3d v5 plus its existing hotfixes.  Why?  There doesn't seem to be much clamoring or strong frustration with P3d that HAS occurred in the past on this specific forum.  That's great!  I know I'm perfectly happy with my P3d v5 performance.  I can't remember when I've had any serious stutters or pauses or memory CTD's.  I am using Active Sky, Active Sky Cloud Art, Season Manager and Addon Manager. My settings have most sliders full right, and I could not be happier with EA and the clouds at all altitudes (using NO volumetric clouds).  I update my Nvidia drivers when new ones come out, and I make absolutely NO changes to the Nvidia control panel.  My "in sim" frame setting is Unlimited.  I no longer limit the frames in the Nvidia control panel because it doesn't seem necessary.  I have smoothness without adjusting the frames lower.  Life has never been better for me with a flight simulator than it is now.  P3d v5 is so much more satisfying for me than that other sim (although I keep MSFS updated and fly it several times a week - VFR ONLY).

The point of this thread is to recognize what I feel is a real sense of optimism and satisfaction that I seem to be interpreting when reading this forum. I never miss a day of reading this forum (and others). I truly believe that most simmers are truly happy with what LM has finally provided for us.

Hope you feel the same.

I totally agree.  5.3 with hotfixes is the best performance and stability I have ever had.  Flying is such a treat now and tweaking left to a minimum.  I could never fly into Flytampa cyyz without stutters, now I fly in there quite often and no stutters!

Well, two things can be true at once--this is the best version of P3D yet but user interest continues to decline.

I'm sure when 5.4 comes out in May/June there will be a flurry of activity in this forum for the usual hot fix that'll be required and then it'll quiet down again.

I just gave up expecting they program this for us. So no need to complain.

Yeah, I've noticed as well that it's getting awfully quiet here.

v5.3 is the most stable, best performing, and best looking flight simulator I've ever had.

I just hope that v5.4 doesn't mess anything up in order to fix or improve some other issue.

EA needs some work, but hopefully that can be done without compromising anything else.

Isn't it time for version 6.0 this year?

Pretty sure it's a three-year cycle for each new release

Happy camper here. I've been on a Megascenery Earth  kick and have about five states so far and am awed at how realistic and stable my sim feels. Photo scenery really rocks in P3DV5.3 with the autogen addons available and is pretty cheap right now. So why not MSFS? Short answer is I have it but the aircraft I greatly enjoy I have in P3DV5 so I will spend most of my flying time there. I have some pics over California that look like photographs. I know we're not the target market for P3D but I'm glad LM made it available to us.

Eight states acually.

You nailed it Spilok. The latest version has me launching P3D over and over while that other thing idles. I'll give that other thing the scenery trophy, but it ends there...whoops that might might instigate a flame war. Don't care though. 5.3: best ever. It's realistic/pretend flying at its finest! lol

The time between Version 2 and 3 was about two years(2013 -2015), between 3 and 4 was 2 years (2015-2017)

and version 4 to 5 was 3 years (2017-2020). I feel the shakeup of June 2019 and the events of March 2020 might have contributed to that.

Normally I would say yes since after x.4 or x.5 we'd be due a major version. However given the work going on in the Laminar and Microsoft camps, and the current state of True Sky in 5.3, I would wager the Lockheed team will take more time to refine technologies for their next major release to please their commercial clients who may be eying the other contenders.

Version 1 November 2010

Version 2 November 2013

Version 3 September 2015

Version 4 May 2017

Version 5 April 2020

Release distances differ quite a bit. But I agree, that now with 5.3 we have a very good and stable platform. No need to rush into version 6.

Hey guys.  I've hidden a couple posts as well as a couple posts that quoted the hidden posts.  Let's not turn this thread into another useless one about how great the other simulator is.  Let's keep the discussion respectful and relevant to the thread.

If XP12 were to be released tomorrow I would purchase it over another version of P3D. Having purchased V3, V4, and V5, progress has occurred at an absolute snail's pace. I was so frustrated with the 5.3 release with stuttering with the CTD issue I purchased and installed XP11 for a breath of fresh air. V5.3 runs well after the latest HF but my enthusiasm for P3D has waned. When you purchase a professional version of the software you expect it to be fully tested before being released. Would anyone buy financial, word processing, photo imaging software etc. and expect to get under the hood and mess with things like "affinity mask settings" or .config whatever to make it work on your system. In any other form of commercial consumer software this would never be tolerated. I don't mean to rain on the parade, but each version release brings the same old story.
