Yes, the FS98 pic. Do you know which Airbus addon is used on that one?

I believe it might be a321ba.zip from flight sim .com

Well you are probably not serious, but I played FS98 just a few hours ago (for historical reasons; runs great on Linux with WINE) and of course your screenshot looks nothing like that. In fact it's surprising how unimportant looks can be if you are immersed in other aspects of simulation.

If looks are genuinely not important, I doubt people would choose this sim.

Given that this is by far the most popular platform, I’d argue that looks appear to be very important for immersion and enjoyment in the eyes of most.

Look at FS98 below. NOT that far off I don't think?

I don’t think your post should be controversial. It’s generally agreed that MSFS’s high-level clouds need some work, I was under the impression that they were working on this.

Let me close my mind and 100% agree to your premise that no one from Asobo will EVER read these forums

See if you can go find something in FS98 that looks like the other 99.9999% of MSFS cloud depiction:

Brutal place this is!

It certainly can be! I get it, you were frustrated and needed to vent and rant. We've all have our moments of despair with this (and other sims) I'm sure. Just today I've got disconnected from Bing several times because "your bandwidth is not high enough" or similar. Lol 😅 (if only "they" knew how much I spend monthly on bandwidth...) Then a CTD 🤪

Earlier today I was thrilled with how good this sim can be after a near perfect flight. I even considered writing a post about it. But hestitated afraid of being flamed for being overly positive...

AVSIM has it's ups and downs. I spend way more time here though than the official forums, which seems to moderate on a much stricter level.

One reason I never tried Bing, sounds like a recipe for problems.

Never used Bing data world graphics in MSFS? What, you're using that Google maps mod over at .to?

Sorry, I got Bing mixed up with Google Maps, yes I use the default Maps.  Google is the one that scares me...

not wasting time posting threads here at Avsim

Who are you anyway to judge that he's wasting his time? I did find the post interesting enough that I bothered chimming in on the discussion. I guess everyone that's posting or lurking in this thread are wasting their time then. Including you 🥴 Heck, I was just about to load up another flight trying out some exciting things that I came up with earlier today, but this thread picked my curiosity.

And by the way, your "Understand this:" made me think of Gandalf - (things are now in motion that cannot be undone...). He's got the right amount of authority though to be phrasing things like that. Lol.

Hi Kernel!  I wouldnt say this place is brutal  But iff you dont research/do your homework before posting people here will let you know very fast 🙂 I mean get your point clear in your head first, double check, and then post and fight your case

Man, those screenshots are gorgeous! And I do hope that the first image is not how it normally looks like in your virtual cockpit 😆

Just had the urge to take a few screenies today myself, parked at the gate at Glascow after a thrilling approach in MSFS real weather. I mean - several cloud layers, turbulence passing over the hills, accurate METAR with correct QNH, temperature - and a good strong 15kts crosswind.

I never did notice much about higher level clouds though. Thing that bugs me the most is the volcanic ash / popcorn clouds (surprisingly). But it seems to me cloud depiction has improved over the last week or two. Or it could just be my imagination.

(I did take the screenshot, then I realised that I've got HDR on. So no, they didn't turn out that good, sadly.)

Absolutely agree on that. I don't want to mess and fiddle around with that replacement mod. Doing enough fiddling around as it is...

So... I'm staring at the circled area in the pic, trying to decide what is wrong? I'm looking at it on my phone, so maybe I'm missing something?

But it's not at all uncommon to have a high, thin, transparent layer.  That's exactly the kind of layer we would joke about if it's in the mid-20s: "still above -40, do we need anti-ice? Does this count as a cloud?"

What specifically are you seeing wrong with it?

If I remember correctly cirrus were just flat bitmaps in FSX/P3D but they looked good from below.

I have run the Replacement tool for months without issue.  One click to turn it on, one click to turn it off.  When on, all it does is re-route tile requests to Google.  when turned off, it changes back to requesting from Bing.  To be fair to Bing, there are areas that look great - Los Angeles area down to San Diego is one such area.  However, texture resolution brings most areas to that standard and higher.

If it was change to Google and no way back to Bing, then I would understand, but its just a click back to Bing.  If you happen to fly in an area where Bing is better for you, just that one click!
