Another tweak that might actually work !

Recommended Posts

Another day, another dodgy tweak where we'll never see any actual direct comparisons or benchmarks, just a bunch of woeful anecdotal feedback and then it's forgotten.

I tried this 'tweak' yesterday, immediately after seeing this video. I did a test flight before and after... I didn't notice any increase in performance at all.

I reduce TLOD and the lighting and shadow stuff, but leave everything else on Ultra.
Though I'm using a Radeon 6800 atm in 2560x1440, as the 6900 xt gets here tomorrow.

I waited a LONG time for monitors and cards to come back down to reasonable prices, and finally they have.
Only paid $300 for a 4k monitor, which also arrives tomorrow, right now using a 32" Gigabyte 2560x1440 monitor.
I don't like the curved Gigabyte monitor so sending it back. I mean yah it's great for the SIM but not good for trying to render stuff or reading text.

Not sure this game is worth running in 4k to be honest, even with these high-end cards, mise well just upscale 1440p.

Just tested it both in GPU limited and main thread limited conditions: it does absolutely nothing.

I hate these videos when a simple bit of text to explain would suffice, I know it's "only" 3 minutes but it would take less time to read about it and implement the change yourself!

One such video went on for over five minutes to show a simple registry change, all for the viewing numbers to appease their egos!

welcome to the world of "content creators" 😩

So the bit I don't understand is why is he tweaking at all running top spec cpu and gpu.  I'm running a lowly i7 4790k and 1070 lol.  Only tweaking needed is within the sim settings imo.

Snake oil get your snake oil right here.

I didn't watch the video, probably won't bother, but snake oil, hmm...

I mean in a sense, yah, but if you give him the benefit of the doubt, he might have believed it helped.

Maybe it does a little tiny milli-second of a frame juddering and jittering when mixed with his dark matter frame insertion on his 150" OLED TV he bought from affiliate marketing funds...

Different strokes, different folks.

When doing airport design, it's nice to see the raw texture with less compression and more original detail preserved. If just flying high, MSFS is a great experience on any machine, but close up it varies with settings more.

Though again, taxiing in Ultra is quite a bit better when at certain distances.

Absolutely! Like many have eluded to - move the sliders. I guarantee you more people will mess up their system with problems down the road after watching that video. The lack of critical appraisal skills by the masses watching videos like this one is remarkable! And many channels like this with videos of this nature do not lose credibility but will actually gain in popularity because the average viewer does not question and assumes it is all correct. There is a touch of snake oil here!

In decades of flight simming I have never seen a tweak that accomplished anything.
