Instead of doing small tweaks that might (not) work, I think we have to wait for better technology. 

Things like FSR 2.0 might help. This video from Digital Foundry covers some interesting topics:

 

As most DF videos it goes quite deep so it might be for those with a special interest. 

I just switched from Nvidia to AMD, the hardware is great but the AMD Adrenaline software really sucks.

Things randomly reset on you, you tell it to set the clock speed at 2200 in the OC, and it starts going up to 2380 when you have the max at 2200.

Suddenly it tells you the fan speed is 0 RPM even though your setting says minimum of 30% and you have Zero RPM disabled.
There is lag in the software when OC'n, so if you do get a lockup there is a dangerous time period in which the software is trying to communicate with the FAN and the fan controller on the VC ignores the software because it's in a bad state, so it's stuck at like 50% and won't throttle up properly and it risks the entire GPU massively overheating and ruining itself. It should have been sent to the controller in advance and the controller should be separate from the driver and act on its own, so that the fan "throttle-up" can function while the card is locked up. Then suddenly it decides to use "Global" instead of the game profile or vice versa, then it decides because you had a crash while experimenting with OC that it will just reset your settings for you. 

Other than this card being hard to custom control things, everything else seems good on the 6800 / 6900xt / 6950xt.

Actually I love the UI and interface (but don't love where they placed stuff), but it's basically nearly unusable (at least the version I downloaded).

Nvidia has the upper hand when it comes to the bundled control apps, even though AMD would win if they would fix the software.

In terms of performance (fps gain) you may be right. Regarding stability or visuals, surely not. There have been several FSX and P3D "tweaks" which were sometimes actually suggested by the developers.

For me the tweak worked, so thanks for the post and the time and effort that went into creating a short tutorial video, much appreciated.

If it had not worked I would have lost 5 mins of my time, no big deal.

I hope content providers and posters dont get put off from posting by the occasional negative response.

Good for you, I am glad you also saw a positive result.

I was expecting all the negative comments about this so it is nice to see that a few people at least thought it was worthwhile. I think the key thing for a positive sim experience is a well balanced machine with the necessary power to achieve the visuals that the user actually wants to see. If you are trying to run ultra settings on a machine that isn't quite up to it then of course no tweak is ever going to make a difference and will more than likely be perceived as "Snake oil"

There have been a couple of well documented tweaks that did bring some gains, I certainly do not ever want to get back to the level of constant tweaking we had to do in the good old FSX days that's for sure!

I've stopped trying all these performance videos, none of them ever gave me a single fps, they're just made for clickbaits.

The thing is that to change that setting may have a tangible benefit on a messy situation in which the GPU and other peripherals work in line based interrupts (of course emulated for PCI-E cards) AND share an interrupt. In normal situations it does nothing.

Don't take it personal for the negative comments and continue posting topics that you may think useful for the community.

But it's important to distinguish between things that improve the situation and things that may patch peculiar systems that find themselves in a f..... up situation to begin with: I mean, first have your systems set up right, then try those things that can get you an improvement over the baseline.

Otherwise it's like recommending random people to change their front left tire: 1 in 1000 people will report a better driving experience but that's because their front left tire was punctured first of all and the tire pressure was low. The others will report no improvements of course.

First, let's understand what changes do to the system, then let's try the changes.

The NDU trick was a good and reasonable one. Also this works and gives a 4-5% boost for every app on Intel CPUs up to the 11th Series.

Then you can disable any useless background applications that appear to consume CPU time and RAM and disable all the services you deem unnecessary.

This is my situation and the sim runs very smooth. As you can see it's all clean in idle and there is no IRQ sharing + GPU IRQ is already in MS  mode. With Edge closed, the PC is literally sleeping.

I got better performance flying through thick cloud layers. The tweak worked for me.

It started off great, when he was mentioning the FPS numbers BEFORE the tweak, then, he explains what he did but he does not show the numbers, just mentioning FPS numbers on scenarios totally different from the one shown in the vid. The exact moment you know that his own tweak did nothing in this very scenario and he had to switch to others where he has no proof. Snake oil, point.

One PC builder states what he thinks is the most often performance mistake made by home PC builders (and sometimes commercially built) is to not setup XMP.

Yeah, that's flight sim tweaks in a nutshell. Never any actual benchmarks or comparisons, EVER. Always just gut feelings and anecdotes.

Can you comment on how your CPU is now in SU10 beta in DX12 mode, with regard to being CPU bound?  Is this better or worse now in SU10 beta?
