FlyTampa Boston Updated

FlyTampa also phoned it in on the KLAS AFCAD. Sucks to see a great dev taking shortcuts like this.

I look forward to the time where we can hopefully overwrite the stock AFCAD's and use profiles like we did in P3D.

I'm a little biased since that is where I'll be retiring in a few years, and have been thru that airport many, many times.  Plus who doesn't love flying in Florida in general? 🙂

What? You're not going to stay in Dallas where it's 100 degrees every day and it doesn't rain? I don't understand. 😁

Hehe....as much as I love Dallas, we already own a home in Florida that we've been planning to retire to for a long while.  The weather there (hot as well, but with a bit more humidity) is better medically-speaking for us.  That is a major reason you see a lot of old fogies retire there, hehe.

Not that I don't love 100+ rainless days for weeks on-end, the fact I have to leave my garage door open in the mid-afternoon (it gets direct sun) so the items in it don't burst into flames (132F was the highest I logged in the garage with the door closed...that metal door acts like a heating element!  You can't touch it when the sun is directly on it).  And who could forget the winter storm that almost destroyed the Texas power grid because they allowed ERCOT to be in charge (with no state oversite) of their winterization program.  What a brilliant idea!  Let a for-profit company be responsible for a critical maintenance project for a one-in-a-million weather event that would cost a lot of share-holder money, but had a small chance of ever being needed. 🙄  We saw how they handled that, and now the state will make sure they are keeping the winterization efforts up to par.

Anyway, don't get me started on that....and at least I'll be further from the southern border in Florida. 😉

Steve Dra

is this an easy thing to modify for a user?

AFAIK no, it's more complicated than in P3D and involves editing lines in xml files. Then again, FSDT published a KORD update adding gate assignments within little time after people asked for it, so it can't be that hard. And then, well, FlyTampa did as well for CYYZ, but so far not for any other airport.

It's just disappointing to see even the top devs neglecting something that was the status quo for what, 10, 15 years?

yeah that stuff is totally maddening.   I almost consider many software developers to be like artists.  So it's surprising they could be 90% done with a masterpiece and then be like, "yeah that's good enough"

I’d say it’s harder for the average end user to do than it was in previous sims (I used to do a lot of AFCAD alternations in FSX/P3D and tried to do so in MSFS - couldn’t get it to compile) but scenery devs have the create one anyway so going to extra mile to add airline codes shouldn’t be a big deal.

FlyTampa added airline codes in an update to CYYZ, so as a company they have done it, but I know the company is made up of a few developers so maybe BOS was done by someone else.  It would be nice if they’d share the knowledge between each other though, FT stuff is top notch and deserves a top notch AFCAD.

My guess is that the thinking might be to get the scenery out quickly and make it look stunning visually while the AFCAD is done to the extent necessary only with gate assignments being considered superfluous. Maybe the assumption is that most MSFS users don't care about this unlike in P3D.

Would be nice if a developer could shed some light on the thought process here.

As far as I know and I could be wrong; the SDK doesn't have anywhere to enter airline parking codes. We only recently discovered you can edit them into the build XML by hand.

I don't think it worked at all when MSFS was first released and its still not obvious to a new developer how to do it.

Toronto, Boston and Corfu DO have full airline codes assigned to the gates. They might not be perfect but its the best we can do for now.

I'll try and add them to Athens and Sydney this week. If anyone has any charts that could help with airline assignments, please send them to [email protected]. Otherwise I'll be trying to figure out who parks where from pictures, youtube and flighttrackers. Not fun.

Thanks for the reply.

This is all I could find for SYD: Sydney - Mascot, NSW Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport Airlines | Airlines at SYD Airport (ifly.com) At least it shows which terminals the airlines use, but no gate assignments.

Thanks George. We all love your scenery and it is very encouraging to the community to see developers like yourself engage with us.
