First of all, that 1,384 number is the amount of airlines, not flightplans

Sorry I meant flightplan files.

Er... that's still not right (or at least confusing) because those files don't only contain (multiple) flightplans but also 3D models and specially liveries. 1,384 flightplans is an extremely low number if those were all the plans that AIG offered. LFPG alone has around 1,500 flights a day so if AIG only offered 1,389 flights it would be almost useless: it wouldn't even be able to simulate a single day on a single airport LOL So there aren't 1,384 flightplan files but 1,384 different airlines/companies and each of those airlines/companies-files contain 3D models, loads of liveries and tons of flightplans.

Yes there are.

Each flightplan file has multiple flights inside of them. There isn't one file for every single flight, but one file for each airline.

I have every single airline installed from AIG, I just went into the flightplan folder and did a select all and copied that number as it would be close to amount of airlines AIG has.

Though I just remembered it's also mentioned on the bottom of AI Manager window so I didn't need to do that.

I get it. Since you initially said flightplans I thought you actually meant flightsplans and just now I briefly forgot that AIG calls them flightplan files somewhere indeed. My bad. Anyway, it's important to know for newbies that each Flightplan file stands for a different company (so you can also say there are 1,384 airlines/companies in AIG) and those files comes with 3D models, liveries and tons of actual plans the AI can fly. 😉 This makes it all easier to compare with ST which only has 175 airlines.

After that I used FSHud to control the AIG stuff: that also worked fine.

As someone who has only used default ATC, but am somewhat frustrated with that option (in particular with regards to lack of voice variation) - would you recommend investing in FSHud?

There's something else going on... I saw an Air Canada flight from LAX (live traffic) on the tarmac in Vancouver that had a China Eastern livery on it, and I have both liveries installed. <shrug>

You get the same issue with Simple Traffic, just a lot more often because of less airlines.

Also please read the rest of the posts.

Not if the lack of voice variation is a problem because at this moment FSHud also only has a few voices. 😉 I personally don't care for all the bells and whistles that P2ATC, PF3 and ProATC bring to the table, bit too much options for me because they only make matters complicated (and i also don't need speech recognition) so for me the simplicity of FSHud is perfect. It does (sort of) what default ATC does but then without the constant switching of controllers, it can use hPa and it knows all transition altitudes. At this moment it's still in development but things are improving. The control of AI is a big plus but that really is still in its infancy... Also descent isn't always spot on (unless you edit the flightplan manually which I don't like to do). It also doesn't assign procedures all by itself depending on the weather: it simply loads the Simbrief plan or whatever you put in it yourself. So it's a bit hard to really recommend it... I like it as it is already and I am fine with it, it will only get better, but it's not THE ATC addon that will solve all ATC problems. 😉

Agree. And thanks for your viewpoints. I too am not after anything overly complex (tried P2ATC before MSFS launched). I guess it comes down to whether one is willing to support the development of this product further. Which I might be.

I have, and I don't see this very often at all though I saw it more initially--as they've added more airlines this has largely solved this mismatch.

Here is my reality:  of the ~5,000 airlines that exist with an ICAO code I maybe am familiar with 50 of those, if that.  ST uses about 200 or so now.  So when Air Podunk doesn't appear at Santorini, and instead Aegean does, it's not going to ruin my flight experience.  In fact, I'd much rather see Aegean there than Air Whatever that I've never heard of.  This will be true for vast majority of all simmers.

@tup61 I was just reflecting on the aspect that FSHud actually controls AI traffic a bit further. And had a revelation / fantasy that this could mean that AI aircraft don't behave in the default nonsensical way (spinning on taxiways etc). But I guess that would be too good to be tue, lol.

EDIT: Just reading a bit on the FSHud website - the info there is promising. And by the way, the AI controlling the traffic has reached sentience apparently:

"FSHud acts and thinks like an ATC". Not sure how this has gone unnoticed. Someone should notify Google.

I tried to install AIG but unfortunately AI Manager doesn‘t accept my Avsim password (Cookies>Login). I‘ve tried it numerous times and I‘m a 100% sure I entered the correct PW. Any ideas?

FSHud has some problems of its own in that regard and if I recall correctly some of those are related to MSFS itself... so the dev of FSHud is also looking forward to improvements when it comes to this. At this moment FSHud AI is quite 'jerky and jumpy'. But it's already better than it was a few weeks ago.

To each his own. But I prefer to see as much real world liveries in my sim as possible. And don't forget it's also about the models. MSFS has a limited amount which look nothing like the real thing while AIG models look very realistic and it has tons of them. But well, yes, I know not everyone cares for that. Funny thing is I didn't, but now I have experienced AIG I do care... it makes a world of difference in all possible ways. But again, to each his own. 😉
