The most realistic rail sim yet?

Featured Replies

Similar to the Ground Operations thread that was shared a few weeks ago that was actually professional training software developed for real world training purposes and the adapted to the consumer market it appear a rail line in Japan has done the same thing with the training software used for its real world operations...

Seems intriguing.

It's weird. Firstly, the cab graphics look like something from MSTS.
Secondly, the outside imagery puts me in the Uncanny Valley. When the train is stopped, the outside looks like a photograph with the wrong lighting for the scenario (something similar to when 2D panel makers for aircraft in FS9 used a photo of the real cockpit and overlayed some .gau switches and buttons).

Yet, when there's movement, it looks really quite realistic. Did the developers use real footage and overlay the signals and that blank dot matrix sign?

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

Looks interesting. This might be fun for a diversion.

MSFS 2020, DCS

Curious How it'll deal with driving "out of the envelope"

For systems and "avionics" (whatever it's called on a train) I'd like to see how it compare to Zusi3

Basically it amounts to being a glorified video player for a cab ride video, with the play and rewind buttons depicted as a forward/reverse throttle lever courtesy of some ropey graphics which clash really badly with the much higher definition video of the real view out of the lcomotive cab window. In short it looks awful and probably is awful as regards simulating a railway with any degree of variety, instead of literally being 'on rails' in regard to a lack of flexibility.

That is what the description stated...

Looks different but perhaps an interesting train sim.

Hot Dang! Talking bout coincidence !

In a thread about the release of TSW3 yesterday i talked about the fact that there's still only *one* trainsim that correctly simulates the physics of a moving train. Making it standout to all other trainsims which all want us to believe that, as a traindriver, you're just hanging there in the cab air with the cab actually shaking and moving around you while of course it should be the *outside world* that should be shaking and moving around. Which was exactly the case with the one and only 'Boso View Express' or BVE. A brillant freeware 'cabsim' by the amazing Mr.Mackoy.

So now, just a couple of hours later, right out of the blue, here comes 'JR East Train Simulator', something that overwhelmingly reminds me of Mackoy's BVE !!  Holy Moly !!, Could this really be ???!!

Excuse me for possibly being over enthusiastic but i loved BVE very much in the 'old days'. Mackoy made me finally feel like sitting in the cab of a locomotive, NOT ridiculously hanging on suspension in the cab as if i had absolutely nothing to do with driving the train, like with MSTS, Railworks and Train Simulator. I have always wondered why i seemed just about the only one having a problem with this.

Anyway, PSolk, i can't thank you enough for your posted HU regarding this new Japanese trainsim !! So thanks a million to start with ! 😎

I have played the few seconds where the train starts moving over and over again (talk about a teaser !! ) and i absolutely LOVE IT !!   (yes, Chock, it takes all kinds ...  :-)

THANK YOU, SIR !

Seems to me like MACKOY IS BACK !!  😄

( sure, i am aware that we can probabely now 'drive' some of the many cabview video's and the setup does resemble the old days when we flown our precious virtual aircraft via a picture of a cockpit panel with working gauges. But let's see how this new Japanese trainsim (or possibly better 'cabsim' ) will develop. In any case, i have no interest in any of the other trainsims anymore because of the ridiculous 'physics'. )
