XP-12 isn't realistic eh?

That's indeed true. Breathtaking ...

That does look fantastic.
I think I’m with David; in screenshots XP12 can produce better skies than MSFS under certain conditions. In motion, it just doesn’t work at the moment because of poor ground textures/autogen/clouds (especially clouds in the distance)/cockpit texture and resolution etc. I’ve watched so many videos and I just can’t see myself being happy all flight from A to B as I usually am with MSFS.

Having said that we can already see more than enough to suggest that with time and 3PD involvement, XP12 will almost certainly compete in most areas and exceed in some unless MSFS gets serious about some of the problems with their product.

Overall, I can’t remember a better time for the hobby. Really excited to see what happens in the next few years with both platforms.

Interesting to see that after years of saying ‘visuals aren’t important in a flight sim, it’s all about flight model’, none of the XP hardcore are talking about the flight model changes in XP12 and absolutely everybody’s talking about the visuals.

@scotchegg Good observation.  Most of the posts have been about how this add-on and that add-on are behaving with XP12.  However, over at the .org the flight model improvements have been mentioned (often).  This old and not current pilot continues to be amazed at how the default aircraft behave. The "feel" (and that's all we non-expert / non-code literate) simmers have to go by is simply (again) amazing.  And it's going to get better as the beta continues.  I have (way) too many payware models so I will wait for updates to them prior to trying them for anything but curiosity right now.  As far as visuals go, the sky and weather are great.  The "plausible" earth is somewhat better than XP11.  Works for me.

As there is very little to be improved in the flight modeling (what you can't say about the main competitor), why not talking about visuals?

However, more about flight and ground handling model to come ...

Both XP and MSFS can be showcased to look very good or very bad. The difference is that MSFS looks good naturally. Looking good is the rule, rather than the exception, for MSFS. For XP, however, looking good is the exception, rather than the rule, and is achieved only through radical intervention, like applying heavy makeup to a 1950s movie star.

For MSFS, however, flying good is the exception, rather than the rule, and can not be brought to XP standards, even through radical intervention in many aspects (e.g. braking distance on dry and icy runway - more to come ...).

Some hot nonsense here.

This thread continues to amuse me really hard. This should be pinned and a must read for all simmers to see what we all could end up if we don't stay open minded.

Coming to my mind:

hardcore msfs lady and xp guy showcasing the one and only single sim in their mindset. A very limited mindset but hey, who cares... they can't be wrong. Feed them with some silly nonsense videos and comparisons and they are going berserk. And the rest of us with some intelligence left is roflmao. All hail the LR and MS brainslugs!

Ah its Friday... Happy flying all...

Cheers

From V1s' stream yesterday. Looks like some nuclear incident in the LA area. 😄

I must admit, I am a bit biased, since respectable guys like Janov complained about every little detail that was not right in MSFS while I was happy about finally having a sim that offers so much we were long hoping for...

He said he just wanted to warn us about too high expectations. Interestingly I never heard a warning about XP in that regard. Like Boeing FMCs in Airbuses or so... Maybe cause he's contracted by Laminar Research. 😄

Except for the upper part of the sun. Which is very different actually. 😉

Now ...watch this ugly mess ... Has nothing to do with reality. A dull grey colour, hasn't even doors and a boot, no engine, no seats, ...
Still, it is a great simulation. That's still the most important aspect of a simulator. I think we all can agree on that 😄. I'd rather buy and drive an "ugly" car that was crash simulated very well, than a very nice and colourful car that was poorly crash simulated. But that's possibly only me 😁.

More on proper simulation to come ...
