Looks like you did your research, should be a good build and a lot of fun.

Does the monitor support freesync or g-sync and HDR, if not I would recommend one that does.

4080 12 Gb version seems not to be a good investment. The anemic memory bandwidth is not good in comparison to the 16 Gb version. There are a number of Youtubes about this. The 4080 12 Gb version seems to be in actuality a low end 4070. Wait for actual 3rd party benchmarks to happen.

The testers have the 40 Series cards in their hands so Benchmarks should be out soon.

Will 850W PSU be enough? There's talk of 1000W PSU being needed for 4080 and 4090, and to ATX 3.0 standard.

I think for the FE cards it should...at least the 4080.  I wouldn't run a 4090 with my 850.  Technically nvidia says 850w required for a 4090 FE.  So once you know, Asus does their massive ROG version, probably would need a bit larger PSU.

@williambuxton I'd probably hold off for two reasons.  Power supplies with the new native PCIe 5.0 support aren't really out yet.  And AMD's 7 series for the X3D series.  Their 5800X3D was a massive improvement over the 12900K.  Yeah the Intel countering cpu may do just as well but we just don't know.

I just did a build in February with a 12700K / 32gb ddr5 ram / Z690 (kept my 1080 Ti) and an evga 850w psu.  Had I known that AMD X3D was coming out I would have went AMD.... oh well!

edit:  Just noticed your Case choice.  A very good case.  But now with these monster RTX 40xx cards I'm not sure it would be long enough.  I think the reference 4080 is 360mm or maybe 350 so it would be darn close for just the FE cards.

Consider the 5000X instead - it's what I have and is very roomy.  I really really love it.  I had a 650D for a decade prior to this Feb build and enjoyed it as well.

I have decided on the Asus ROG Strix XG349C ultrawide monitor. Both choices are 2K, G-sync compatible and offer HDR. I will be watching pricing closely.

I chose the 4080 12GB based on price and that NVIDIA indicates MSFS will perform almost equally on all 4090 cards.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/rtx-40-series-graphics-cards-announcements/  It will be interesting to see the benchmarks. It was significant that NVIDIA featured MSFS during the announcement presentation and in their marketing. It appears that the "Game of the Year" title and the addition of the x-box platform has given our sim the needed mass to be a recognized tier one game.

Although an 850W PSU is probably adequate I intend to overclock so a 1000W room heater makes sense. Not a big price difference anyway.

Good catch on the case. I will be sure to check to make sure everything will fit.

Wow I have a monster Cosair case now and was hoping to go much smaller on my next build.  I wonder if anyone is getting creative on the case designs to keep them small with these new cards or maybe just have the card sit outside of the case (maybe dumb idea, I really have no clue of the implications of this).

The sky's the limit with a Dremel tool or similar haha!

Probably not until the glut of 30xx cards is over.

Lot of information in that link. One thing I wonder about. They talk about 4090 and 4080, but what about 4070 ? Will there be no 4070 ?

I think the consensus is the 4060 and 4070 will be 2023 Q1 release, but it is dependent on nVidia selling old 30xx stock and that could shift it to 23Q2. I expect the RTX4070 to be the sweet spot in terms of price, performance, size and power draw but I could be lured by an RTX3080 if it was priced around £525 as I expect that would be similar performance, albeit foregoing DLSS3 (that would be a big drop though, even a 3070 Ti is £700 at the moment!). With an i5-12400F an RTX4060 could be a better match though?

I have an mATX build (Define Mini C) so I can't have a card longer than 315mm and I have 3 slots spare. Hoping to get something with a quiet cooler since everything else on my system is already quiet. Most GPU coolers seem to be derived from hairdryer technology 🙄

Power spikes are  a thing. Personally I wouldn't risk 850 watt.
