October 15, 20223 yr Yesterday some new hardware arrived. Asus CROSSHAIR x670e, Corsair Vengeance 32GB 6000mhz 36Lat, AMD7900X (64MB L3 Cache +12MB L2) and Corsair waterblock (for my custom water-cooling at 2x360mm radiators). I use this mainly in VR with Varjo Aero at 37ppd (almost 4k). Sim settings: DX12, Almost everything at ultra, vol clouds at high, ambient occlusion at medium, terrain vector data at high. TLOD200 (even 250 is possible without a single stutter) and OLOD 180-200).DlSS at quality. Well, I'm flabbergasted this was possible with FenixA320 at EDDF Asobo bad optimised airport with AIGAIM at 60 percent I get 35 Frames at heavy rain and OC clouds and SUPER SMOOTH Experience. I mean, panning, taxiing takeoff all butter. Above FL030 (3000FT) almost everywhere 45 to 50 fps! I'm now GPU bound (97% at 3090). My AMD cpu 7900x sits at roughly 30%usage and some of the 24processors are even almost not used. I have undervolted my cpu (PBO2 with -25 curve optimised) , temps are average at 65celsius and variating between 40 and 80 Celsius. Clockspeeds go up to 5.5GhZ but mostly below this (between 3.0 and 5GhZ). Windows 11 22H2 HAGS ON. This is a huge jump up from 10900k! I can recommend using AMD as probably the high caches are really helping out. M. Edited October 15, 20223 yr by mpo910 Regards, Marcus P.
October 15, 20223 yr I am waiting for a 7950X system to arrive with 6000mhz DDR5. The L3 cache is what swayed me over the new 13900K. Plus I’m gambling that I can switch out the 7950X to a 7000X3D one when it arrives with even higher L3 cache. First time using AMD for two decades for me, and it looks promising, your results look really good. How is it in 2D?
October 15, 20223 yr The AMD X3D chips with the much larger cache is definitely the way to go. The benchmarks in MSFS have proven it time and time again, and not by a small margin. I have also been Intel for 20 years, but their small increments are not cutting it. I was looking at swapping out my 12900k for a 13900k, but I have shelved this idea for now. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's. Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I'm in a similar boat but thought that the 13900k looks likely to give more fps than a 7950X based on what is known so far. From what I can see the 7950X barely performs better than the 12900k. Are you basing your preference over the 13900k on smoothness (because of L3 cache) as opposed to higher fps? Where did you see that the 7950x offers a smooth or better experience in MSFS? I'm asking because I was considering the 7950x but felt a bit disappointed in the benchmark reviews in terms of fps. By the way I plan on also getting a 4090 and using 4K. I look forward to hearing more of your rationale behind your decision. It might sway me in my decision too. Cheers.

It will give high enough frames in msfs without fighting over an extra 5 or so, but because it’s L3 cache is higher it should be (and seems to be by the op’s experience and also looking at the X3D cpu) will be way smoother. And that’s what it’s all about for me. The smoothness is what creates the feeling of flight. Of course higher frames help, but if we can get to 60 with nothing ever dipping below 40, then I’d rather have smoothness than more fps. One more thing that swayed it for me is longevity; these new AMD motherboards are going to have support for 5 years. Intel is non committed with such talk. oh and this one is a bit of a gamble, but I’m pretty certain that it will support AMD’s new X3D cpus in January, and if the old 5800X3D is anything to go by, these cpus will be the king in MSFS! October 15, 20223 yr An interesting thought I just had. I saw HAGS is mentioned as on by @mpo910 I need to revisit HAGS as wells as resizable bar. Not sure if the 2nd is even supported. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

Important is, if you get extreme latencies then try the in sim depth and motion (if I recall correctly) turning off Regards, Marcus P.

In any case, I may be forced to wait a few weeks for my new build as everywhere seems currently sold out of 4090s. Let us know how you get on with your new system when you receive it!

October 15, 20223 yr My OC i5 9600k and 3070 still a good combo! Running i5-9600K @ 4.8ghz - 32GB DDR4 3200mhz - GTX 3070.

October 15, 20223 yr I am also thinking about going from 3080 to 4090, but not now. They are really expensive, for that you have to replace the PSU and the case. AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, MSI RTX 5090, 64GB RAM 6000MHz DDR5, Tuf Gaming X870Plus, 1200W PSU English is not my first language.
October 15, 20223 yr What would be interesting as well would be to compare (with an RTX 4090), the difference between a 7950X, a 7900x, and 7600x in MSFS, especially looking at the 1% lows (aka the smoothness barometer) to see how much difference the L3 cache makes in each chip (as they differ in quantity). I'm especially curious what the difference between a 7950x and 7900x is. Edited October 15, 20223 yr by steve310002

They are being very responsive.
