Hello all!

I am thinking of upgrading my monitor to a SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey Neo G7 4K UHD 165Hz 1ms G-Sync 1000R Curved Gaming Monitor but my question is...Could my rig (Specs in my signature) handle 4k?

I am currently limited by main thread at 1440p and I get about 45-40 FPS with the Fenix at MOST add-on airports. Since I am limited by my CPU, would I be able to get similar FPS at 4k if I make my 3080 work a bit more?

Thoughts?

With DLSS, it should hold a solid 30fps if that is good enough for you.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Remember that you don't necessarily have to keep your settings on full 4K (3840 x 2160) just because your monitor supports that. My video card isn't as modern as yours, so I keep my monitor display settings to 4K, yes, but I then dial down the Render Scale within the sim to 2560 x 1440. That way, I get a great display and excellent performance even on an antiquated computer and video card. You'll have no problem at all with your superior hardware.

Processor: Intel i9-13900KF 5.8GHz 24-Core, Graphics Processor: Nvidia RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6, System Memory: 64GB High Performance DDR5 SDRAM 5600MHz, Operating System: Windows 11 Home Edition, Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX, LGA 1700, CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling, RGB and LCD Display, Chassis Fans: Corsair Low Decibel, Addressable RGB Fans, Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i Fully Modular Ultra-Low-Noise Platinum ATX 1000 Watt, Primary Storage: 2TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, Secondary Storage: 1TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, VR Headset: Meta Quest 2, Primary Display: SONY 4K Bravia 75-inch, 2nd Display: SONY 4K Bravia 43-inch, 3rd Display: Vizio 28-inch, 1920x1080. Controller: Xbox Controller attached to PC via USB.

My rig is 5+ years old, I9-9900KF @ 5ghz and AMD 6900XT GPU. Like David, I underscale a bit. No problem for me to get 60FPS with almost all "HIGH" settings on 4K 42" monitor.

My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet

Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

I'm running 4k on a 55" 4k Samsung TV. I am still running an old GTX1070 card 🙂. I have my global settings set to medium and its pretty good. I do get some stutters but nothing that keeps me from enjoying my flights. I don't fly the big iron, mostly the C310 and the Kodiak.

I will say that the sim looks a ton better in 4k even at medium settings. I used to play 1920x1080 at High global, but the 4k even at medium is a huge improvement in picture quality.

I would assume your 3080 will do a hell of a lot better then my 1070

I too have a 1070. Instead of using medium as your global settings with 4K, trying setting everything to high (not ultra but high) but then downscaling the Render Scale from 100 to 60. Set the AMD sharpening tool to 200. That gives me smooth performance and great graphics on a 1070 providing a video feed for a 4K TV while MSFS is set for 3840 x 2160 output.

Does that TV have a Judder reduction setting? If it does and you are not using it you should give it a go. If you video card is sending a 30hz signal to the TV and the Judder reduction on the TV is set to 10 the TV's hardware will interpolate an extra frame between each each of the frames it get from the GPU for 60fps on screen instead of 30. Its just like DLSS and it's free. 😁

Intel Core i9-10900K at 5.2GHz, Corsair H115i PRO, ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO Z490, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 15-16-16-36, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB x 3, Corsair HX Series HX1000 Watt PSU, Pimax Crystal LIght.

@iFlySimX

I have identical specs to your cpu and gpu - just bought an ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ - managing minimum 30fps maximum 48fps on mostly utra settings.

Limiting factor is still 'Main Thread' and not GPU.  The GPU fans are having to work a bit harder but thats about it.

The difference going from a 27" to a 32" is substantial - I can actually read all the gauges - going to 4K - sublime 🙂

9800X3D  + RTX 4080 + 64GB DDR5

I was running 4K with my old Rig which was an i5-9600K & GTX 1080TI and could run pretty decent settings locked at 30fps, the main thing is to spend the time and adjust the settings to get the most balanced result. You do not need to run everything on ultra for the sim to look amazing. I find if you can stay GPU limited and keep the frame time as even as possible you should have a good result. With a Gsync monitor you might be able to push the settings a little higher. Once you have tried the sim in 4K it will be hard to use anything else though 🙂

The other option maybe would be a 4K TV, 43 inches is a really nice size and doesn't require a massive desk. There are some good options out there with some great gaming features.
