November 25, 20223 yr I run P3D5.3 HF2 and most of the time I use Active Sky with ASCA. EA is always on; I like that. Is the latest version of Sky Force 100% compatible with P3D5.3? I have a vague memory there was an issue with it in combination with EA, but not sure about it. Does Sky Force really have added value compared with ASCA? What do you think? Rein
November 25, 20223 yr I bought RSF precisely to replace ASCA. Meteo engine is still ActiveSky, however.... 13600KF - AIO - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - UW1440p GSync - USB DAC - 2TB NVMe - Windows 11 Pro - Gladiator NXT EVO - 1 Gbps Fiber - MSFS 2024

November 25, 20223 yr I've used Rex Sky Force (by itself) with p3d 5.3, and it works fine, there is a click selection for v5.3 in Sky Force's settings.
November 25, 20223 yr Commercial Member I’m considering switching to RSF to replace ASCA. Does it work well with EA? For some reason that I can’t figure out, nor seemingly the HiFi Tech Support folks (supposedly shaders I guess? Despite me using default ones now), a gray/brown low-altitude band near the horizon whenever AS/ASCA is running with EA on. I would absolutely pay to get rid of this ugliness, and some decent looking EA clouds that aren’t ultra-low pixelated resolution. https://forums.hifisimtech.com/threads/gray-brown-band-on-horizon-using-asp3d-b8080-ea.14352/ Kyle Weber (Private Pilot, ASEL; Flight Test Engineer)Check out my repaints and downloads, all right here on AVSIM

So are the REX clouds a lot better than ASCA in your opinion? Thanks. Dave Dave, this is very subjective, but think of this, REX contains over 1,500 cloud models vs. ASCA's 330+. Sky Force also utilizes 24 different cloud types at any given point, vs. ASCA's 12. This yields much more variety in any given scene. Tim FuchsManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com
November 26, 20223 yr So are you guys suggesting Active Sky as the weather engine ...( I liked the dynamic themes in P3Dv4 ... ) with the cloud/sky graphics from REX (or subjectively ASCA) WITH "EA" activated ? Edited November 26, 20223 yr by Gabe777
November 26, 20223 yr ...and volumetric clouds off. @Gabe777 13600KF - AIO - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - UW1440p GSync - USB DAC - 2TB NVMe - Windows 11 Pro - Gladiator NXT EVO - 1 Gbps Fiber - MSFS 2024
November 26, 20223 yr Went ahead and bought it, and I'm pleased with the results. I'm not using the weather engine, prefer ActiveSky. Also using EA so sky colors aren't applicable. So really just using it for clouds and effects, but it's worth it. November 26, 20223 yr Commercial Member Does RSF then not do anything to volumetric clouds? Mine are pixelated garbage when I turn them on, even on ultra. Does it do anything to sky colors then too with EA on or just EA off? (I’ve always been confused by this product, probably why I never considered pulling the trigger until now) Kyle Weber (Private Pilot, ASEL; Flight Test Engineer)Check out my repaints and downloads, all right here on AVSIM

With EA on, the sky colors are generated by EA, so add-on sky textures won't have any effect. When using volumetric clouds, add-on clouds won't have any effect. I use EA on, volumetric clouds off, so Sky Force gives me the cloud structures(models) and textures. November 27, 20223 yr Commercial Member I guess I’m confused how folks finally got past the pixelated volumetric clouds then - significant cfg tweaks? Kyle Weber (Private Pilot, ASEL; Flight Test Engineer)Check out my repaints and downloads, all right here on AVSIM

I don't use volumetric clouds 1)because I don't like how they look, and 2)they degrade performance. Hopefully they'll be improved in v5.4 or v6.0.
