This could/should have been x-plane 12 - more than plausible

I am one of those who removed Ortho's and Simheaven.

But I must admit I am using SDF Global to get regional buildings (only using SFD Global Autogen and Landmarks in XP12.
I am waiting for either new art assets by LR, or an updated version of SFD Global.

As long as you don't know the region very well, like in which meadow  is a tree or a shed, it is more then good enough.

I wonder why so many scenery developers are falling all over themselves creating so many scenery for that other sim. Are they doing it for the sake of belonging or are they wasting their time because after all the scenery is so perfect out of the box in the other sim, or isn't it?

The post is old considering that several releases candidates has been release since Dec 2 and many have been noticing the default scenery with the lighting looking better, some much so that they even are removing Orthos and in some cases Simheaven. So there is not some much dependency as you may put it. But it still begs the question as to why so many insist on making scenery for the other sim that many claim are not needed. I would assume that Orbx will put their touches in there and I am fine with that.

In other words, nothing is perfect, we like to enjoy what we have where it counts. Whether I use Simheaven or not, is not going to matter how I fly the aircraft of my choice.

As long as I can see the vegetation changes in the season and the whether effects on the ground I am fine.

This is not a criticism of SimHeaven but probably in some places it is still good but in others not so good. I like to go to out of the way places and there I find XP12 default is virtually spot on (maybe not 100% correct with respect to a particular building or hangar but that is irrelevant really), It is close enough for me, Give you an example Wewak in PNG, Simheaven gave me European chalets and open ground and highways all over - um not in PNG- the default XP12 was spot on really, So basically I have taken out SimHeaven for the time being and put in a few little airports around the place that are more correct to my liking, I have looked at dozens of airports about the world and the XP default is superb. I think it is worth remembering that Laminar have been very carefully picking up good airport scenery and incorporating them into the base sim (literally thousands of them) I find that very impressive!

I am very impressed by XP12, Yes there have been quite a few updates and there are a few niggly issues here and there but overall 9/10. Flight dynamics are fine - depends on what your flying I guess, Very strong in the small aeroplane and mid range aeroplane - yet to really try it hard with stuff operating at close to the speed of sound. Weather is fine and overall lighting is good, But look for out of the box no streaming downloads in lots and lots of places cannot tell the difference between MSFS and XP and in some places it is better,

I have no problems with MS as they promote, unlike other companies, help/development/health etc. projects.-

Also it's OpenSource!

I'll have to strongly disagree.  I'd rather that than this...

But that is just my opinion.

Agreed that photogrammetry is useless in some areas, I don't use it myself, so I don't see the above issue.

Hey, there's no perfect sim. I want all of them to be successful. It's a big hobby of mine and I like lots of choice.
