How important is this 7900XT(X) advantage over 4800 ?

but frame gen does not work in VR.  (Yet)

Does anyone of the hardware gurus know if there is a general obstacle preventing this or is it just Nvidia didn't find time or resources to implement it yet?

Kind regards, Michael

I'm no guru but I believe that the issue is to do with latency introduced by frame generation, as it needs to process the last and current frame to create the intervening frame meaning your system is always at least one frame behind in what it displays, ie. it is retrospective. For VR, motion projection is the opposite in that it is predictive in order to minimise latency, which can otherwise cause motion sickness in VR, and therefore the two technologies are at odds.

9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit

MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS |  VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11

Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

The problem is DLSS increases the latency for VR you need the most FPS without DLSS and at the moment that`s the 4090 until the Ti comes next year.

Would be nice to know if MSFS can even make use of the 24 GB.

I'd definitely get the 4080 or 7900xtx in that case.  MSFS is showing a bit better performance at higher resolutions right now but frame gen does not work in VR.  (Yet)

I have seen information about AMD being weak in VR. If so AMD might not be a good choice for me.

Did we ever decide IF rhe extra vram of the 7900 XTX is worth it over the 4080 in MSFS? I have been patiently waitingand checking supplies and still can't find a 7900XTX. I can get my hands on a 4080 though.

I am not interested in an AMD vs nVidia debate as I have used both and had good luck with both

Just got a 7900XT a few days ago and am totally satisfied with the performance in P3d, MSFS, XP11&12. I researched everything and know where in the various food chains reviewers have put the current crop. I have a smaller case and the 4080/90 simply would not fit plus though I was target fixated on a 4080 I decided to have a good look (at the suggestion of a friend who manages a computer store)  at the 7900XT/XTX which would fit fine. Plus it runs cool and quiet.  I was more  interested at first in the XTX but looking at everything figured the XT would more than serve me well. Plus there were no XTX available. Additionally 4080/90 were much more expensive. Happy the way it worked out. CPU is a I9-9900K.

I finally made my purchase decision and went with nVidia this time. The heat problems with the 7900 XTX and being able to DLSS 3.0 by going to nVidia, plus the 4080 having much better VR performance than AMD cards made my decision for me. I might now maybe will try out my G2's in MSFS. I found an nVidia Titanium and Black 4080 at Bestbuy for $1199.00 so I am not going to complain about the cost either. It will be at my local BB store on Sunday. The 4080 should pair nicely with my 5800x3D.
