Once all is installed, copy that location to a external ssd, just to prevent this happening again 🤣 I've understood that, but I fail to understand how I can make this update to be only 600MB big, when there are none of those folders anymore that have existed before? I hope you will have things up and running soon again. Alright ok, thanks. I was afraid that I'm not able to understand what I should do. I'm doing a regular backup of all my important documents on my PC (docs about banks, stocks, taxes, etc). Quickly grabbed my external SSD to just copy back my community folder I had thought I saved couple months ago (better than nothing) but then I realised I haven't got a backup of it 😐 Will do one every month now, and everyone else should do so too. Better to invest 15 minutes per month for a planned routine that to spend 15 hrs to set everything back up again.
January 31, 20233 yr while you are at it: why not choose a different path that's easier to maintain, like mine is D:\FS2020 I am in the AAU1 beta, today it installed a 650 MB update into this path and everything runs smooth as before. didn't have to leave the beta, left everything as before. AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.

Congratz to the Working Title and the MSFS team for their hard work! I don't think there is any competition for MSFS IMO. sp Edited January 31, 20233 yr by Sky_Pilot071

Just make sure (when you have to reïnstall the bulk) that it is uninstalled correctly via Windows apps utility and manually any reemains. It is odd that it still says 'Update' instead of 'Install' on your screenshot. And with Addon Linker there is no need to back-up the Community folder. Edited January 31, 20233 yr by Gerwil

I've added a link to the community folder in the quick access toolbar to get to it with a single click. Does choosing a different path for the community folder prevent it from being deleted in the future? If yes, I'll consider moving it somewhere else. "didn't have to leave the beta, left everything as before." When you don't actively leave beta, are you automatically in for the next beta? Or does a MSFS beta programme always end for everyone after the stable version was released and you have to opt-in again if you still want to be part of it in the future?

MSFS came back (latest version 1.30.12.0) and I could start the application again, but I guess it came back completely naked without anything, thus the 108GB update.

I make a complete backup of all MSFS-related (plus the corresponding AppData, plus work-related, plus personal stuff) folders twice a week. I only was in need of it once when I thought it would be a clever idea to press the "Check files button" in Steam. I learned it wasn't. The price for an external 2 TB drive is peanuts compared to the other MSFS hardware, and one just needs a bit of discipline to do the backup twice a week. I set Outlook reminders for this. Thanks, I'll use the addon linker from now on since I haven't got the time for another possible giant re-download and re-install in the future. 😅 I had hoped the times of complete reinstalls had been gone with FSX and P3D.

The Linker is a God's gift. And besides just linking, it has a host of features (map display, doublets search, MSFS start options etc.) which probably very few (including me) know in all detail. BTW, some of them are accessible via the config file only.
