February 1, 20233 yr @Zimmerbz No, it was the default airport. Edited February 1, 20233 yr by NismoRR
February 2, 20233 yr So is the conclusion that this wasn't actually fixed? I keep going to ORD and the ground is a white sheet and it hasn't snowed in days. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been to multiple default airports in the northern US in MSFS, (including KORD), and though snow exists on the ground, the runways and taxiways are clear of snow. It is definitely working. Snow doesn’t disappear when stops snowing either in the sim, or in r/w, if temperatures remain below freezing. There is still snow covering the ground outside my home in upstate New York from a storm that came through two weeks ago. Third-party add-on airports may (or may not) work with the new system. I assume that Asobo is controlling snow removal based on the type of textures making up the airport surface. Add-on airports, which may use custom textures (rather than SDK default textures) for runways, ramps and taxiways might not be clear of snow. In fact i think they have done a good job of replicating that. What I am saying is that in r/w snow is removed from the alley's, taxiways, and runways pretty much in real time. What I see at the airports is just a very generic looking white sheet and looks totally unrealistic. It might be just me, but I thought that it would be a pretty easy fix to have the snow removed from the airport hard surfaces. February 2, 20233 yr Mixed results for me. Loading at a default northern airport (CYDL), real weather with REX airport textures enabled it looks very realistic for the location. Some traffic has obviously landed since the last snowfall but there's still snow on the runway, especially towards the edges. Same airport/weather with REX textures removed there is much more snow. The center line is pretty much obscured and the runway numbers are invisible. I think (as others have said) it's not a black-and-white fix; depending on recent weather - and maybe meteoblue is feeding in to this - you may not get everything clear. Worth mentioning too that in other posts someone clarified that what should be clear is the tarmac, not necessarily all of the runways. This "fix" is still a work in progress I guess. February 2, 20233 yr it depends on the colour of the textures. I'm not sure how it works, but I believe the darker the runway/taxiway texture the less snow will be on it. That's why custom textures are showing different amounts of snow from default. It was explained in the last Q&A before the winter break IIRC. Edited February 2, 20233 yr by Tuskin38

It sure wasn't last summer .. there were places in the sim like Juneau that were snow covered with frozen salt water any time live weather was on, even in August lol. Andrew Crowley
February 3, 20233 yr What about the roads? Could still not test the update, but the roads were one immersion killer in winter scenrios. Are they now black? Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024

It depends on their surface texture. I think Asobo was concentrating on clearing airport runways and taxiways first and foremost. Roads with dark textures tend to be “plowed”. Lighter colored roads less so. Jim BarrettLicensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic, Avionics, Electrical & Air Data Systems Specialist.
