PMDG m737 Reverse thrust

If you have a spare button on your throttle you can use it as "HOLD THROTTLE REVERSE THRUST", so when you hold the button you can use

your throttle axis for reverser. I use it on a Hotas  Warthog and it works like a charm with the PMDG or the Fenix.

Yep, this is what I do.  Further, I use the latching switch under my left thumb on the throttle.  Then I don't have to hold anything, just flip the switch aft and I have a reverse thrust axis using my normal throttles.

Hold on, so you pressing a button and then you move your throttle fwd which moves the actual reverse throttle backwards ?? I dont think my brain agrees with that 🙂

Yep. This is how I do it. Press button on stick, use throttle lever to apply rev thrust. When I'm slow enough,  press button again and give throttle a little bump to disengage.

Don't press F4 in the PMDG when in full idle, just move your throttle a bit (which will lead to normal idle), then hit F2 again for reverse idle. It's a tiny workaround but at least you won't spool up to 80% N1.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

That is the way it acts with me. A button puts in into reverse ( full reverse) Moving the throttle just a tiny bit then brings it back to idle, and reverse levers go off.

I got to admit, I was hesitant to get the  737-600, but after flying it today, I am already hooked on the way it flies.

Glad to hear it.  I find myself going back and forth between the Fenix and the 737 as my top two go tos.

Yeah, same way I handle reverse in the Milviz Porter, which comes in handy on those Papua jungle strips ;).  It works really well; gives smooth, realistic control of reverse thrust.  For instance, after landing the 737, I would ease the reverse levers to idle deployed at around 80kts and then stow them once the engines reach idle.  My sim technique makes this possible.

The Boeing reverse thrust mechanism is different from that in the Airbus. The latter involves pulling the throttle qaudrant backwards through a gate into a reverse thrust region. The further back one pulls, the more reverse thrust the engines produce. In the Boeing, it's necessary to pull up on the reverse thrust lever and then move the throttles forward, i.e., the reverse thrust lever deploys the reverser mechanism, while the throttle controls the amount of thrust.

The use of the HOLD THROTTLE REVERSE THRUST option makes it all work correctly in the Boeing.

Not quite sure I understand this part. At which point other than reducing reverse thrust does the throttle moves fwd ? The way i see it the Boeing has a dedicated levers gor reverse thrust, and they go backwards to increase reverse thrust.

I'm not sure if he is on about the way he has it working in MSFS, but in real life you are correct. The pilot would pull the reverse levers up to the interlock position, when the reversers have fully deployed, he would then be able to pull the reverse levers further up to increase the thrust.

Friends, it looks like that's right, about the thrust levers in the reverse thrust procedure. See

https://www.flaps2approach.com/journal/2022/9/9/reverse-thrust-procedure.html

It's the reverse thrust lever itself that has multiple positions which determine the amount of reverse thrust applied. My bad.

Nonetheless, this still differs significantly from the situation in the Airbus where the thrust lever is pulled backwards through some sort of detent below idle. What I should have said is that the use of a button to activate HOLD THROTTLE REVERSE THRUST permits one to simulate the motion of the reverse thrust lever being moved forward for increased reverse thrust by moving the desktop thrust lever(s).

The Boeing arrangement seems mechanically complex. Does anyone sell Boeing style thrust levers that simulate the proper motion of the reversers?

Just tried your suggestion, and it works perfectly in the B 737. I can now vary the amount of reverse thrust while holding the button down... Thanks.
