...Austin insults his competition as opposed to let the advancement sof his product...speak for itself.

...Austin has a hard time getting his XP11 base to move to XP12, some 5 months after its initial availability.

It must be frustrating for Austin to have a product that is light years "ahead" with lackluster sales "behind" its predecessor (on the sources publicly available).

Spin it any way you want, XP12 needs to do more....let's start with cloud reflections at night.

So yeah, water has been a huge emphasis in updating XP11:

So much so the most exciting "super secret" development for XP12 (consumers dont get it) is a large plane manufacturer using it for training all the pilots for its planes.

Similar goes for the weather engine (no one else is within parsecs of having a 3rd party API for their weather, 12.04 just started exposing it), lighting engine is barely available in some very very expensive architectural software, bringing photometric lighting into flight sim is completely unprecedented. All this you missed infinitely waiting for MS to deliver on its promise of every button in the cockpit working like the real thing, something XP had back in XP10.

But keep digging, really enjoying the insight into how people who thought photogrammetry was the most important thing in flight sim cope with Laminar not just delivering on their promises but exceeding even the most optimistic forecasts.

What do ou mean with ground-environnement? The visuals have been improved, there are new ground-effects, moving trees, seasons. And he even said that the ground textures will be improved.

And can you give us the exact source for Austin insulting his competition? I never have heard him insulting them.

from what I've seen from his comments on the competition, insult is probably the wrong word, more like very impolite towards bad ideas the competition was running with that left those who still believe in the bill gates project feeling insulted.

this attitude is the exact opposite of what I have experienced from shopping  with Amazon over the years, and reminds me of a vacation and a scene in a restaurant by the beach in the then communist Jugoslavia a few decades ago. no waiter, no service was to be seen anywhere. then finally someone came to take our order, or so we thought. instead he  suggested we go over to that other restaurant across the street. fortunately not exactly the attitude I have experienced many times  in the USA, the world champion when it comes to service and user satisfaction. once in an Outback restaurant I complained to the waitress that my steak wasn't medium as I had ordered but instead well done. she called the manager and guess what: within a few minutes we had the whole dinner served all new again, and a voucher for a free meal the next time. I will never forget that restaurant and the pretty waitress with hot legs in shorts, but that's besides the point. 😀

A well dressed good Samaritan that spoke English kindly suggested you move to an open one after overhearing your complaining

have you ever travelled to a communist country in the eighties? they were simply not interested in your business, rather "closed" because they couldn't make a profit for themselves, it was all run by the government.

p.s. that other restaurant was just as "closed" and not interested as the first one. I have been to communist Jugoslavia more than once, I know.

I just completed a flight in the UK from EGBT Terweston to EGFA West Wales airport (in the new Thranda C208 Caravan - superb handling aircraft).  The cloud layers were spot on.  Flying over wales towards the coast I could see the sea and blue sky in the distance. I checked the real world satelite image to see Wales covered in low cloud, but clear over the sea.  I descended over the sea to 1000ft in clear air, but just a mile inland the cloudbase lowered to 500ft with the visibilty rapidy deteriorating.  There was also a high layor of cloud replicated in sim and that also gradually disappeard half way across Wales.  Cloud depiction was great all the way - I agree there are still some odd cloud shapes, but the way they are portrayed by the XP12 lighting model is just superb. 

So I can say again - OMG the clouds 😁

It has been stated XP12 is the best selling version of X-Plane in the time it has been released.
