Stutter Question

Featured Replies

Lately I have been seeing stuttering, particularly when flying into complex airports with the Fenix.  This happens when the airport comes into view and has been happening when looking towards the airport.  I know I need to play around with settings, but i thought of a question.  When setting up my flight, I have always picked the departure airport and gate and then hit "Fly Now", never picking an arrival airport.  Could it be possible that since I didn't pick the arrival in the menu, it is loading too late in the flight and causing stutters?  It's a longshot, but I figured I'd ask as I am not sure how the sim loads airports.  99% of the time I am smooth as can be out of the departure airport, but only get the stutters/pauses on the arrival.  I have been using DX12.  I am not sure if DX11 would help with this either.  Thanks!

I never use the flight planner so I don't think it's that.  Payware/freeware airports loading in have always caused me a brief stutter in any of the Sims I've used.

This is more than slight though... it a 2 second stutter and it happens pretty frequently.

Default airports? Bespoke? Add-on?

Are you running with some sort of vsync at a fixed fps or floating? Have you tried other settings than ultra for the graphics? Have you tried this with aircraft less demanding than the Fenix?

There seem to be a lot of things that can make MSFS run oddly. When something like that happens I try not to work from the top down and change one thing at a time, because that can take forever. I just revert to the basic system with an empty Community folder and work my way up.

I haven’t tried any other planes because I only fly the Fenix. When I would fly around with default GA planes, I never had this.  I only also fly into 3rd party airports like Flightbeam, FSDT, ini, etc.

I believe I have vsync on but not sure what floating is.  I have a combo of high settings and ultra.   Clouds and buildings are high for example but a few others are ultra

Traffic?

It happens either on vatsim or offline with PSXT/ real traffic or FSLTL.  I see no difference between either of those scenarios.  The other day I was on vatsim out of ini DTW and had Fsltl running too.  I was getting really bad stutters on taxi / departure so I shut FSLTL off but the stutters remained.  That was one of the only times having them on departure

Turn traffic off as a test

Ok.  I can try that next time.  What is weird is that this started happening out of nowhere.  I’d get a little drop in performance flying into these airports but never the stutters like this

@Zimmerbz I've been encountering stutters as well lately, especially just at rotation and on landing--aka the worst timing. I've done a couple tests tonight with FSLTL on and off. With it off, the stutter was gone. Turning it back on, the stutter occured around the same flight. (My test is a short hop between KSEA and KTIW in the PMDG 737-700)

How high is your TLOD in graphic settings in sim ?  No reason to have at 400/max, or even 300.

10700kf, 3080 nividia, 32gbs 3400mhz, 1,000 watts power, M.2 DVMe !tb, boot, 1tb 7200rpm, storage, windows 10 home

TLOD and Render settings to high could be a big reason für such things, the making of the Airport ( how optimised he is ) from each Developer ect, ect..

I think al around you will not get this Sim total stutterfree , that is just an Illusion.

For examle if i use Airport XX it works very well, if i use the other Airport i get some stutters and another Airport i get hard stutters or short pauses with always the same settings ( moderate ) .

It has to do with to much things and i think you never get this perfect done - IMO.

cheers 😉

I was working on a scenery a few weeks back and after each fase, I did a test flight to see if things went smooth without any FPS penalties.
It went great until I made a large polygon to cover an MSFS landclass patch and the typical "approach" stutter appeared when approaching that polygon. As airports also use polygons for runways, aprons, etc. it could be something to do with that?

No. I don't believe this is how it works. Picking your arrival airport is for ATC and nothing else as far as I know.

I too see what you are talking about but only with add-on freeware airports that are poorly optimised. There is a Stansted one on flightsim.to that does it particularly badly for me. I use TrackIR and when I'm looking around to keep visual it's really bad whenever I look in the airport direction. It will create an ugly pause for half a second, perhaps. I won't put up with it so if an airport does it it gets removed immediately. Stansted is now off my machine. It just ruins the immersion and pleasure of a flight.

I think it's a problem that is created by the developer of the airport with optimisations etc. The better the airport quality the less it seems to happen if it happens at all.

So far I don't have a payware airport that does it to me but I don't have many of those.

I am realy no expert with this things, but i think this for shure could be possible, because we still get Asobo updates for the code itself and so yes - possible..

Ask inibuild, i am shure they can answer your question ! 😊
