Another AI piloting fail

Seriously, when are they going to fix this. It's embarrassing. Especially with AI taking leaps and bounds lately.spacer.png

Why don’t you just write up the code and send it to those embarrassing souls.  Clearly your prowess far exceeds theirs and I suspect this could be put to be in a day or less…if only you will step up.

Will you?  The World awaits.

He has a point. AI traffic really is one if not the worst part of the sim and it's only recently started to become slightly better, but it's still worse even than FSX AI traffic. Just on my last flight traffic was departing and arriving opposite ends on two parallel runways that shouldn't even have been in use considering the wind, while I was taxiing through aircraft on a clogged up taxiway because an aircraft was stuck somewhere while another one touched down in its runway's opposite touchdown zone and a low flying jet made a low pass over the airport before crashing into the terminal... talk about immersion killer. It's been > 2 years and it needs serious work asap.

He may have a point but his hyperbole is over the top.  Embarrassing?  Has he looked at the simulation lately?  It is anything but embarrassing save for a wart or two and those are being whittled away bit by bit.

My words stand.

I don't believe that the op is referring to AI traffic, rather AI piloting ?

Autopilot for default airliners?

I hear you, but AI traffic and the stunts the aircraft pull are indeed embarrassing, no matter how good the sim is otherwise and looking at what I see on almost every flight it's unfortunately still far from just a wart or two but instead downright annoying with larger volumes of traffic. I understand the OP's frustration.

Could be. I forgot the AI pilot is a thing in MSFS. In that case, forget my previous comments (even though AI traffic is indeed bad).

As can be clearly seen by the livery, that picture shows a Subterranean Airways flight in cruise - not an AI error!

Mate this is not a free product. If this was an open source community effort made by volunteers your point would stand. It is a feature in a paid product. AI piloting used to work. Now it doesn’t. Yes I agree the rest of the product is phenomenal. They just need to fix this. Or maybe remove it if they can’t. I’m not dissing the whole of MSFS - would I be on an Avsim forum if I hated it?

This is a really annoying BUG (set of bugs) that spoils my enjoyment of the product. And they should fix it.

I didn’t mean the whole product is embarrassing. Of course it isn’t. MSFS is amazing or we wouldn’t be here. The AI piloting is embarrassing. Or to be exact, the bugs in it. It’s trying to fly at 1800ft over a 2500ft mountain and ignoring its own terrain warnings. That really doesn’t seem like Artificial Intelligence does it?

I’m not sure I understand the point of AI piloting. Using it makes this Microsoft Passenger Simulator. But to each their own.

Turn the words around, "a Simulator of Flight", so being a passenger is still flying. Given the great cabins being produced by companies like Fenix et al, I would actually like to use this feature... if it worked.

You can use a flight recorder and playback the flight you just have flown by yourself. I sometimes do this using SkyDolly in VR taking a wing view.

True, it's not the same thing as letting the plane fly by itself though,

But a "Flightsimulator Passenger Edition" would not be such a weird idea actually. Marketing of MSFS in 2019/20 has been so succesful that i have heard of people buying it that would never have touched software like that otherwise. Resulting in dissapointment however as they cannot seem to devote time and energy in learning to fly but with the desire to see their own house.

I like to key in a departure and arrival airport and set a plane to fly a route while I work.  True I also fly, but it's cool to have on in the background. It behaves terribly.

If it's a feature in the game then it should at least work.  If it's not relevent or never going to work properly, then take it out.
