Cablemod wasn't yet shipping when I was ready so ModDIY won my business. Perhaps not as sexy as the Cablemod adapter, but it is cheaper and works perfectly. 

I have a bit more room but the glass side panel is applying a little pressure. I will take a look at this.

Do you then have a 12 pin power cable going from this extension straight to your power supply? I have a Seasonic Gold Plus 1000W and I heard they will give these cables away I am not sure if my power supply has a 12 pin socket though

My PSU has the 12vhpwr cable/connector. But the connector is straight on both ends of the supplied cable (and very stiff at the connector). Wasn't happy with the arrangement.

OK I looked at my PSU and it doesn't have the 12vhpwr connector but I contacted Seasonic and they do have a cable for this card, the weird thing is it is a 12vhpwr to 2 x 8 pin plugs at the power supply end. I thought these 40xx cards needed a minimum of 3 x pin plugs.

perhaps you need 2 of those cables.

I also found this cable on another site and it looks the same as the one I can get from Seasonic only a 90 degree connection which I prefer

What baffled me is that I am currently using the supplied adapter with 3 x 8 PCIe cables from my PSU. When you look at the image above only 6 pins in each plug are connected which makes sense as it is going to a 12 pin connector on the GPU end. Maybe someone can explain why in my current situation I am using 3 x 8 PCIe cables from my PSU

I thought I would answer my own question in the opening post regarding my i7-12700K and an RTX 4090.

After installing the card yesterday morning I did some testing with both TLSS & FG Off then TLSS & FG On. The baseline was the ultra preset, Fenix A320 on RWY 27 at Liverpool's EGGP with FSLTL at the default settings. I tried both 120Hz & 100Hz refresh rates on my 55 inch Sony X90J and with FG Off I was comfortably able to hold 55 - 65 fps and with FG on at 120Hz 110 - 117 Hz and then at 100Hz a solid 97 fps. What I didn't realize that as soon as you turn on FG Nvida Reflex automatically turns on and caps the fps 3 below the refresh rate. So FG does live up to the hype.

This afternoon I was playing around some more and I took off in the Fenix from EGGP and headed south towards EGGL, while climbing through FL080 I decided to up the TLOD to 300 and the fps stayed rock solid at 97 and after 5 minutes I increased the TLOD to 400 and yes the fps did drop to low 80's but everything was still very smooth. As I approached EGLL at FL320 still with the TLOD at 400 I was still holding a decent 70 fps. That is just simply bonkers lol, I don't think I would believe that could happen in the Fenix.

Long story short my 12700K seems to be running pretty well with my 4090 and I am one very happy bunny. I am going to try a few flights now and see where I can settle with the TLOD.

I wouldn’t expect a big reduction in fps when you’re so high over the airport.

You don’t mention if you have an Ai package installed. That will dramatically reduce performance at large airports. Try adding one with 100+ Ai at Heathrow and try a landing on 27L/R approaching from central London.

That is amongst the most demanding scenario in any sim.

Hi Ray,

It really wasn't supposed to be a scientific test. I did have FSLTL running with 100 IFR aircraft at the time so the skies were pretty busy. I was more curious to see how my 12700K would react with the one setting that is known to be very hard on CPU's. I really have no intention of running with the TLOD at 400 as the visual aspect difference isn't worth the extra stress on the system. I would prefer running with stock ultra settings and have a solid 97fps. Like with all my hardware upgrades I will fully optimize the sim for the hardware I currently have.

That’s okay. Whilst I don’t have MSFS so your settings don’t mean much I use the EGLL scenario for testing my system as it pushes it harder than anywhere else.

If your settings can cope with 100 Ai on the ground at Heathrow it can cope pretty much anywhere.

I use EGLL also.  I usually start on Rwy 09R and take off and head over central London.  With heavy weather.  And the AI at Stansted, London City, Heathrow, Gatwick, and maybe even Luton are in the bubble.  I'm getting a little excited to see how this new machine stacks up.  My 4090 is on order (Gigabyte Gaming 4090).

Hello also have the same CPU but a 3080 TI, just wondering what resolution you are running as im on 4K and thinking about the 4090 TI

I am running the sim at full 4K on my 55 inch Sony X90K with zero issues. I’m not sure if there will be a 4090TI but honestly I don’t see it being worth it, the 4090 is more than capable. I’d consider any extra spend going towards a slightly better CPU although that is my personal opinion 

My 9700k Seems to keep up with my 3090 just fine, so yeah Id say your even faster CPU could keep up with a 4090. Go for it. 

I run MSFS all maxed out and it runs nice and smooth.
