May 29, 20233 yr I'm finally moving on from my ancient system to an intel 13900K + nvidia 4090 setup and am struggling to settle on a monitor. I really need accurate color representation such as a full 100% SRGB mode (which has all display settings unlocked), good DCI-P3/ARGB coverage, etc for non-MSFS stuff that I do, and it seems like VRR/gsync monitors that have these features are far and few between (am eyeing the Asus PG279QM however). So as an interim solution planning to stick it out with my 1440p 60hz monitor for now. Given that, some questions and would love opinions from you all: 1) The new cpu/gpu is overkill for 1440p 60hz I guess, but that said I guess this also means I can crank up all the visual settings to ultra and beyond, turn on vsync set at 60hz, and can hopefully have a mostly smooth stutter-free 60 fps experience? except for the cases where due to cpu bottle-necking or other reasons like heavy add-ons load MSFS dips below 60 fps. 2) I have never used a variable refresh rate (i.e. gsync) monitor before, and from all what I keep reading those who've experienced 144+hz can never go back to 60hz. But for applications like MSFS, is there an appreciable improvement in going above 60hz? I guess that's probably subjective. 3) For those with VRR monitors do you find they help (vs a fixed 60hz rate monitor) when MSFS dips below 60 fps since the monitor refresh rate is always attempting to match the GPU? 4) With my new system (see sig), should I still be looking to lock vsync and or fps (in-game and/or via NVCP) at 30 rather than 60 for a stutter-free experience? Most 144hz monitors have a minimum refresh rate of 45 hz (not 30 hz like a 1080p 60hz one does). If your going to lock the refresh rate find out the minimum for your monitor and set it to that.
May 29, 20233 yr TV 4K + 144hz + Vrr/Gsync + MSFS DX12 + TAA + DLLS Frame Generation ON It is BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I completely forgot what poor performance and micro stuttering look like. I have the impression of playing Super Mario so it's smooth.
May 29, 20233 yr I agree I'd go for a 144 hz quality monitor. I personally like 1440p but 4k is cool too. May 29, 20233 yr RTX4090 will not turn you MSFS into a hyper realistic simulator but 4k screen is the best way to exploit its potential in unfailing visual comfort. You can take off from anywhere in ultra with complex airport with heavy plane and with FSLTL traffic on Maximum. Everything happens as if you were in the middle of the countryside ... 4k screen is a must have for this graphics card. For OLED I do not recommend, the anti-reflection filter is not good.Seeing yourself as in a mirror is the worst atmosphere. It must be used in a room that is always very dark. The brightness is one of its weak points as well as the screen marking. I can use my QLED next to a bay window in the middle of a sunny afternoon. I expect nothing more from MSFS from a performance point of view.
May 29, 20233 yr I have Asus pg42uq. It has matte coating, so no reflection. Picture is fantastic with HDR on. Intel Core i9 13900K, NVidia RTX 4090 FE, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 64GB@6000MHz, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe M2, Asus OLED PG42 UQ

That assumes the screen is unable to crank out more nits than the matter filter obscures, and I don't think that is the case at all any more w/ newer screens. IOW, you'll still need to dial back brightness even w/ a matte coating. Asus pg42uq is certainly better on this side but it was not very difficult either After the technical aspect these are personal choices. After hours and hours of using my QLED I am completely delighted whether it is for simulation or office work.I can even forget to turn it off.

Have you considered a decent 4K TV? I have a 55 inch Sony X90K and the sim looks amazing on it. I run the TV @ 120Hz with Gsync on and with frame generation on my 4090 it is spectacular. I chose the Sony because they have very good colour reproduction and hardware for controlling motion. If you have a Costco membership you could try a decent TV out with no fear of returning it if you don’t like it.
