Aircraft

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

There are a lot of aircraft that came with the program I know I am never going to fly...

1) If I delete them will it speed up loading times/make any difference?

2) Where do I find them and the aircraft CFG so I can also delete the liveries of those I will not use but keep the aircraft in the liveries I will fly?

Dave

I haven't noticed any difference in loading time, you can uninstall both aircrafts and liveries from the content manager.

System: I ASRock X670E | AMD 7800X3D | 64Gb DDR5 6000 | RTX 4090 | 2TB NVMe | Seasonic Vertex 1000W I LG Ultra Gear 34 UW I

I have pretty much everything uninstalled except the aircraft I fly, which is about 8 aircraft 6 of them pay ware, and I notice no discernable difference in loading time. I also removed the discovery flights and bush trips and all such things I do not and will likely never use, but it is still around 5 minutes to load, just as it was when I had all those things installed.

I think this is what is behind comments related to 2024 about storing more on the cloud, downloading less and speeding up the loading process.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Addon Linker. Load what you want before a flight even with presets you can make yourself. That way....if you want to fly airliners only in USA you can have a preset that only loads scenery/libraries/planes/liveries. Then if you want GA only etc etc

If it does, it will be such a small difference that you won't be able to perceive it.

The only proviso/warning is ...  if you use non-default addon aircraft a lot of these leverage stuff like sounds, instruments etc from the default offerings.

If any of your addon aircraft start having issues after deleting default planes you will need to track down which default aircraft they rely on and reinstall that particular aircraft.

Must have addon for the reason you quoted and very easy to use. There is a mod(files for almost all the default planes of MSFS), that is to be use with Addons linker, which permits to "mask" the default planes you don't want to see in MSFS and of course this very convenient because you can revert very easily.

I have never heard of that mod, do you have a link?

What do you see for loading times from initialization of MSFS to the Welcome screen when you optimize for your specific flight?

Aircraft used in MSFS 2024:  Fenix A320,  Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.

No difference in loading times deleting or keeping aircraft, but as said above certain aircraft addons have dependencies on vanilla/default aircraft sounds and systems.

Drive space is no longer an issue for me so i just keep everything installed.

I use Addon Linker and DAMFOOL from @guenseli to hide the default aircraft that are not used. This does not speed up MSFS initialization unfortunately.

On my MSFS install, all available content is installed but I use techniques to reduce the visual clutter. @blueshark747 is correct, the bush flights and training, for example, require their respective default aircraft to be flyable.

Why do you use them then?

Addon Linker has more functionality than most folks realize. I will leave you to read the manual about the other capabilities.

Note that if your on PC and have a keyboard handy you only need to type a couple of relevant characters in the search box to reduce the "visual clutter" back to just a couple of options to choose from.
