Status of PMS50

Featured Replies

Haven't been simming in awhile, and my subscription to the PMS 50 expired. I had some gripes with it when it was unlocked and I'm wondering if it's gotten any better. One of the major gripes I had with it was you were not able to go DIRECT to an airport, and select an approach from the PROC menu. You had to create a "flight plan." when doing multiple approaches to various airports, it would then not load any approaches after awhile. Wondering if that all has been fixed. Wasn't a huge fan of the TDS even though I own that one as well. I like having the MSFS database, and up-to-date nav data.

Wasn't the general problem of the PMS50 that they add whatever feature the community asks for instead of strictly staying with the real-life features the Garmin unit has?

If the community asked for a feature to be added, and it was, does that not suggest the unit hasn't got a problem for many simmers?  The TDS is obviously closer to the real world unit but has an old nav database.  The PMS unit has an up to date nav database, but is not as feature rich.  When I use the PMS unit, it looks like, and operates like the real unit.  If there was a feature I don't agree should have been added, I can simply not use it.

Same here. I had the TDS unit before I moved to MSFS but now have PMS. I really like it and love using for so many things including checklists.

You can select an approach from the PROC menu, even select visual approach like WT-G1000.

Not quite true. Not “old”, but older.  The GARMIN Trainer database is currently about 10 months past expire.  Generally stays under a year. My opinion?  Seldom a problem, never a show stopper.

I don't understand how anyone complains about the GTN via the TDS version.  I've never had a waypoint missing and I mirror real world flights several times a week.

Certainly can be on the network at an RNAV only GA airport.

I wasn't complaining about it, rather being factual in that the nav database is old.  If absolute realism is required, the TDS unit is the one to go for.  If an up to date database is a must, go for the PMS.  I have both and enjoy both.

Not you specifically, just some who act like it's the developers fault that Garmin only releases new trainers periodically.  It was the same when RXP sold the GNS and GTN in FSX/P3D.

Nope, if you go to their Discord you see people asking for many features all the time and the dev saying he won't add them because they are not in the real unit. He adds some though, but as optional, you use them if you want.
