October 7, 20232 yr Render scaling higher than 100% is a way of making the sim use a form of SSAA, or super sampling anti aliasing. So, I tried 105 (I run 4K) and the image quality is way better. And because I use FG, no hit to FPS.
October 7, 20232 yr I've found similar Ian but as I only have a 3000 series card, I can't use FG. When I was running at 1080 rez, I could get away with 120% render scaling, but now at 1440, I no longer have the headroom. October 7, 20232 yr For about a year I've been using RS set to 105 for that very reason. With my weak CPU I cap fps using vsync 1/3 of refresh of 100 and it works for most situations. It definitely improves image quality at 1440p. i7-6700k • Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 • 32GB DDR4 2666 • EVGA FTW ULTRA RTX3080 12GB
October 19, 20232 yr Hey Ian, good tip on using 105 render scaling. What anti aliasing and Fidelityfx sharpening settings are you using with 105 render scaling? Thanks. Hey Ian, I have also done this for quite a while, I run 4K on my X90K and with the render scale at 105 it helps keeps the load on my 4090. It worked really well even on my 3080TI & 3090. The more you can stay GPU limited in MSFS the better. October 19, 20232 yr Interesting find, since release now I use a render scale of 130 on my 1440p monitor, main reason is to move load to my GPU for a better balance between CPU and GPU (and thus less stutters). Thanks to FG, it also does not really harm if I loose 10-20% FPS doing this, but render scale 130 does of course harm VRAM load. I will try those 105 as well once, might be sufficient for the GPU load increase but lower load on VRAM compared to the 130 I currently use. October 19, 20232 yr I could get away with 120% render scaling as long as it's not foggy weather, and the difference in sharpness is noticeable, but I also went from Main tread limited to GPU limited which is a plus. No harm. People used to run then 24/7 at full whack for months/years when mining. Edited October 19, 20232 yr by Ianrivaldosmith
