That’s good news, I thought QW had died a death.

Or is that the horizon sims -9 you’re perhaps thinking of ?

Last time I checked (few weeks ago)that was the response they gave, I just looked on their discord and it still seems to be the current situation.

The 78x mod is temporarily discontinued until their new 787-9 catches up.

As an aside Jon, what do you make of the base  WT 787 now, not sure I’ve seen your thoughts on it yet?

ETA sorry I meant heavy division not QW!!!!

I was going to ask you for your thoughts on it too.

I know there’s lots of inaccuracies and things missing but I really like it, mainly because they’ve done such a good job on the instruments and HUD I can forgive the rest, personally I think it really captures the ambiance of the flight deck when I use VR.

I was trying to think of an analogy for it the other day to try and put it into words for people asking on the forums.

The best i could come up with is ,if your  usually sober wife got drunk, she isn’t behaving the way you’re used to her behaving, but you know it’s still your familiar wife behind all the  inaccuracies.

As opposed to the QW which would be the equivalent of the woman across the street putting on a wig and pretending to be your wife. She might act correctly in her behaviour, more so than your drunken wife perhaps, but she just doesn’t look right, you know something isn’t quite right.

I did fire up P3D and try the QW again last week and to be fair it was better than I remember. If QW are still alive and kicking and working on a MSFS version then that’s really great news.

And, no disrespect to this A320 guy doing YouTube tutorials on the 787, but that’s quite a tall order after just moving across from an A320. I had a couple of decades on other big Boeings and have been on this thing for almost 3 years and I still don’t know what it’s up to most of the time, it’s taken me quite a while to get comfortable with it, not sure I’d be up to doing tutorials even now.

Funnily enough I’ve just landed and had one of the Boeing 787 test and technical pilots onboard, who came up to the flight deck for a chat on the ground. He said he still learns something new about this aircraft everyday and still sometimes can’t work out what it’s up to.

Are you mistaken with someone else and not QW being QualityWings? As I believe Quality Wings has been very quiet about MSFS for a number of years. Maybe a different team that was working on the 787 instead? (HeavyDivision, Kuno etc).

SO SORRY EVERYONE!

I was talking about heavy division not QW.

I can only apologise for the confusion I’ve caused!

Haha it's ok - I was going to say, QualityWings announcing updates on their 787 would be big news 😁

Well QW gained a Twitter follower here, they have g-liner to thank for that 😁

Yes that my feeling also.

I really like it and it captures the essence of the 787, I’d like a VSD and some more efb functions plus chart integration etc but working title have done a great job.

I love flying it but definitely don’t know as much about it as I did with the old Boeings, interestingly I’ve helped with a couple of the fs2020 787 projects and it really helps understand what’s going on by having to answer questions and get in the manuals a bit more.

I think for YouTube tutorials though you can just run through the procedures mainly and that’s enough for most people.  It’s often a bit of a giveaway when people diverge from the Boeing 787 NPs as to their employer or if they’re not actually experienced IRL with a 787.

Thanks for the reply and apologies for the QW revival fake news. I think they’re likely dead also but hope to be proven wrong.

Someone’s  PM alerted me to my mistake as I tried to share the discord and realised it was heavy division!

Having watched a few preview videos on the Horizon 787-9, it looks a little twitchy on rotation which for me is always an immersion killer and a bad omen for the rest of the flight characteristics

😂 😂 👍

I wish the WT 787 had been available when I was doing my type rating as I find the HUD fantastic in VR, it would have been a great help in familiarising myself with its use,

I certainly find it a lot better than the HUD in the full motion simulator, which for whatever reason I can’t focus on while looking  out at the visuals , I have to close one eye.  The WT HUD in VR works just like the real aircraft I find.

I’m the same, (I think it’s a common phenomenon) in the full motion sim with the ghosting, I think it’s because instead of focusing on infinity like irl it’s focusing on the projection in the sim. I did have it explained to me once anyway.

😬 That's not generally a flattering comparison that we'd be proud of, but always love to hear what type rated pilots feel the most important inaccuracies are, if you have them!

An exceptional experience - PC Pilot

Glorious - IGN

'Flies like if your usually sober wife got drunk' - jon b, irl 787 captain.

Dunno about others, but I'm sold! 😆

Seriously though, I think there's a limit with current technology to be able to replicate a multi-million dollar transport vehicle that can encounter dynamic sky conditions on a home use PC. A lot of people (usually) understand that.
Keep working on improvements, sure. Yet, sometimes close enough is good enough and it sounds like WT, Kuro and Horizon have made significant improvements to the default 787.
