Jeeze, that's enough to turn me off the aircraft!  Autopilot is one of the main control panels and how even the real version has it hidden away seems very strange.  MSFS 2020 is already quite difficult to fly without having to manipulate a view of the autopilot panel.  Thanks for all this info, I will keep alert for updates which might fix it

Are you joking Nigel?    That statement amazes me.  It takes about three seconds to make a custom camera view which the sim remembers forever unless you erase it.  It does this per aircraft.

You get into a perfect position on the autopilot panel by using the arrow keys, press control-alt-1 (top row numbers not keypad), and it stores that position forever (unless you want to over-write it).

Use 'f' to go back to normal view, alt-1 to go back to the autopilot panel.  Simples.

Alt-1 to Alt-9 are available to be set as custom views, and they are just as easy to use as control-1 etc., so I don't get your point.  You want to fly a relatively complex aircraft but can't take a few seconds to set up a view?  It doesn't make sense.
A lot of aircraft in the sim need the odd custom camera view setting up, and it is easy.  Don't miss out on a decent aircraft just because a camera view is missing!

If you use a joystick, I have set up some spare buttons on mine for 'f' (default view), and a few for alt-1, alt,2 etc. to switch to custom views quickly - it really isn't much hassle.

Does MU-2 use the TDS GTN 750?

and no hassle at all in VR, where you move around in the cockpit just like in the real or home built cockpit.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

No, there are no options yet for either the TDS or PMS GTN units. Hopefully, with the first update, there will be improvements made to the modern radio stack.

The bigger issue with the autopilot, as I see it, is the fact that it is almost impossible to determine whether a button has been pressed. I didn't expect them to include an annunciator panel, but the buttons barely move, and that's the only way to know which mode you've selected.

AMD 7800X3D, RTX 4090, 42" LG C3 OLED 4K TV/Monitor

If you have tooltips enabled you see the status of the buttons, and the rate of ascent/descent selected, by hovering the mouse.

Would really like to reduce/remove the trim wheel mouse-mappings though!

Hi BobCat

Thx for all this, I was not aware of the Alt-1 series but will try and follow through on that. I have the Velocity One yoke and have all the control -1 series assigned to the 10 keys on the throttle quadrant which is pretty convenient, although I much prefer the piloting properties of P3D and FSX; it is hard sometimes trying to click a button in 2020 with the mouse (particularly as I am pushing 89!). So trying to get the autopilot panel into a view sounds a neat little challenge for me.  Thx for the help.

I am having fun with the Mu2 - but found the stall characteristic a bit mild as to the real airplane - as it would drop a wing if mishandled - have watched most of the videos giving it a run around the block so as to speak - but one thing they all have glossed over is is the little handle below the pilots window - none seems to know what it is for - now let me enlighten the assembled masses - it was designed so that you could open it & pass your fuel carnet to the refueller - especially when you were trapped inside with a full load of cargo - hope that clears that up

but on the whole I am really enjoying flying it - even managed to fly a nice ILS first time - but watching the speed is critical

From an earlier post from Rattso...

"What a shame - I would have preferred the Mu2B - having survived just over 1500hrs doing night freight on them.

We had a lot of losses in them here in Australia when they were first introduced - as a previous poster said they required serious attention at all time when flying them - they tended to fly with a slight nose up attitude & when icing conditions were encountered the ice built up on the underside of the fuselage - where you couldn't see it - the only real indication was the slow degradation of airspeed & a rather quick departure from controlled flight."

It's a Microsoft product with ini just building it so support for custom avionics products seems unlikely, but we can hope.

JayDee complained about the "non-typical" turbo prop sound. I have seen several youtubes where the real MU-2 seems actually unusually quiet. how do you rate it and does the MSFS version have the typical beat frequency (like the BlackBox Shorts SD3) typical of non-synchronised twin-props?

well the reason why I no longer fly airplanes is a case of tinitus caused by very noisy aerplanes & minimal ear protection in those days - the TPE Garrets were at the upper end of the scale noise wise - I also flew the AC690s for years - so as for the sounds I am glad that they are much quieter in the sim - otherwise MS would most probably be getting class actions re hearing losses in later down the road!!!

how would you rate the inibuild's MU-2 sound characteristics (not volume) compared to the real thing? so far I have seen more underwhelmed complaints than applause.

I didn't fly the MU-2 but the Dornier 228 and my tinnitus started after about a year on the airplane. Although I'll never know for sure, I've always blamed the Garretts.

If you don't mind my 2 cents, I think they did a fairly decent job of capturing the sound of the engines. Of all the things that need to be improved and/or fixed on this aircraft, the sound is not very high on my list. The first thing I noticed was that they did a fairly decent job of capturing the different sound the engines makes as you walk around the aircraft. You can hear the hiss of the Garretts when you are standing on the side or in front of them, but it softens a bit when you approach from behind. TBH, the cockpit sounds similar to what I remember a Do228 sounded like, even if the engines weren't in the exact same location relative to the pilots. As far as I'm concerned, they can leave the sound alone while they work on other way more pressing issues.
