What do you mean??

Me? I mean AS is one of the best tools for weather injection I've ever been able to use on both platforms.

It has more control over the sim internals in P3D, but I hope that a better SDK weather interface in XP12 will make it even better that what it is already.

Yes, as soon as Laminar will make their full weather-API available, AS will be able to improve their tool. I think it makes sense to wait til the weather is fine-tuned before giving the full access. As far as I understood this should happen with XP12.2.0.

Fully agree.

One of the most important features is historical weather.

I kind of liked the ASXP but have stopped using it due to the weather redraws I get with it and never have noticed with the in-built weather. Do you guys have this as well with ASXP? Thinking if there's some setting I've overlooked or something.. ?

There are two options that minimize the occurences of cloud redraws:

.) Use hybrid mode, where by default 10,000' is the alt above which xp12 built in weather is used, but you can change that to lower / higher;

.) Bypass mode which uses xp12 built in weather and applies to it only effects like those of eliminating the buggy rain everywhere there's clouds, turbulence and wind tunning, etc...

HiFi needs decent SDK to allow for AS to do it's Magic ...

Any chance to avoid complete cloud redraws in XP11? Sometimes it's not only a cloud redraw, on my last approach ASXP did a redraw and injected foggy weather for 20 seconds, then did another redraw and injected the weather before that, just with similar clouds.

Do you have 'Prevent downloads on approach' checked in the  'General Options' menu. and do you load your Flight Plan into ASXP.

Yes and yes. Lately I just insert the FP manually in ASXP, since I fly direct GPS.

Maybe with a manual direct to/ direct to … flight plan in ASXP  can’t distinguish the start of the approach. Let’s hope Damian can comment on this.

edit.. just had another thought on this do you enter the flight levels in  ( and descent speeds ) as it may need to know where you TOD is .

Yes, I usually cruise at 28000, climb 1800 descent 1800, all entered in ASXP.

What's your 'Download Interval' is it worth trying increasing it

15 minutes. I thought shorter interval will make weather refreshes less noticeable, in other words will not go from cloudy to overcast in 15 minutes, like it happened few times with ASXP. But as I think of it, it can happen in real world, weather can change drastically in 15 to 30 minutes too. I'ts just the change is too drastic with ASXP. I hope that is fixed with XP12.

  • 1 month later...

I recently purchased ASXP, and unfortunately the weather transitions really impacts the immersion for me.

I've tried hybrid, where it switches over to XP weather at FL10 (setting 100). However you get the same immediate transition. Again on decent and at the arrival ICAO.

Really hope this gets fixed in later iterations, if in fact LR release the API / access to third parties.

Alternative maybe LR will fix the accuracy of their weather source meaning ASXP becomes redundant.

Happy either way
🙂
