Aviationify - Simulate a pilot's career!

Any software that penalizes pausing or time acceleration is ridiculous, as it basically invalidates the single best part of using a simulator vs a real airplane.

Tell them that! They say in real airlines pilot don't use no pauses LOL Really? What about transfer controls to co-pilot, duty time limit and so on, they don't care about those!

I wish there was another APL like program that would take reasonable balanced approach

I never understood why people are so bothered by this pause penalty. It is just a 2 percent penalty so your rating is 98 % not 100 %. These are just numbers. You know the reason is that you paused the flight, so you know it was a perfect rating for you. What is the issue? As far as I know there isn't even a community leaderboard depending on the ratings. So just consider 98% your goal. Problem solved.

Then why bother giving ratings at all?

I think it's way to increase chances finding a better job paid with 5 star company. That is all. I'm penalized every time I fly Leonardo MDs because APL doesn't register spoilers retraction correctly. So my rating was draining for couple month from 100 to 97.46. Still I can get in to American Airlines, United, Delta, Fedex, UPS and so on

I have the same view and just carry on. I get docked points for leaving flaps out after parking at the gate on a hot day even though I'm flying an Airbus A320. I get docked points for speeding after executing a go around because the app thinks I'm still on approach after descending below 2 thousand feet. I descended to 6 thousand on vatsim from an atc instruction and got docked for speeding on approach so the app has a hard time dealing with airports at High elevation. None of this really matters to me as I know I did the correct thing.

There is a lot that can be done better but I don't think we will see it with this version or even this product. Even with the schedules, there is a better way to go about it other than clicking regenerate over and over and also make it look more realistic. I don't fly at Virtual Air Canada but their pairing system is what I would expect from a pilot career addon. Flights in order not departing at random times and with layovers....An actual 1, 2, 3 or 4 day trip with how long I want my duty day to be per day.

That's what makes this thread all the more comical as I think I've got my moneys worth with APL and I'm fine overall with it but it's really not that hard to brainstorm a better product.

OK - that sounds fair enough. With my limited time in messing with Aviationify, I found it impossible to shut down the ATR without incurring penalties - so it looks like there are always going to be problems with the odd aircraft.

That said - how hard could it actually be to code a profile for each individual aircraft?

It gives you feedback on your flying skills. APL provides an extensive evaluation of a multitude of items. "Pause" is just one of the many - you can just ignore that one and still enjoy the rest of APL.

I flown ATL with ATR no problem there

haven't used it for quite a while now, I guess they've updated it since then, I don't know when I tried it it was quite frustrating.

The range for the best job chances is 70 - 100 %, so there is still a large margin even with that 2 % pause penalty.

Still I wish they didn't have. I do, however, wonder if they could track if land on centerline or at touch down markers

That would be nice indeed. So far there is only the satellite map of your touchdown so you can assess that yourself.

There was a virtual airline that acars system was able to doit but I can't recall the name of it.

No need satellite map you can perfectly see when you land LOL

I don't use any of these career add-ons myself so I wasn't exactly reviewing one of them... Just commenting on the nonsensical design philosophy of apparently punishing users for availing themselves of the most useful functions of a simulator.  That just... Doesn't make any sense at all lol.
