Actually, you used it before it appeared on flightsim.to on 9 Jan. (v1.1.7), but you have videos showing it on your channel that go back about a week before that - go figure…

I find this interesting.  Is this true?  Not a good look......

I don't use any of these career add-ons myself so I wasn't exactly reviewing one of them... Just commenting on the nonsensical design philosophy of apparently punishing users for availing themselves of the most useful functions of a simulator.  That just... Doesn't make any sense at all lol.

Just want to probe a bit more. You're saying that you don't like programs that punish you for using time acceleration or pausing because that's what the benefit of a sim is vs a real plane. I can see why you approach it that way since you are a real life pilot. However, I would imagine that the majority, perhaps the vast majority, of simmers are not and maybe they are trying to approach it from the opposite angle in trying to get more realistic challenges to their flight simming. You can of course argue the extent to how realistic the program is, but ultimately its goal is to provide more realism to the simming experience.

Note, I'm not against the idea of taking away the pause and time accel penalties. I'm indifferent to it. Don't very much care if I ended up getting penalized for having to pause a flight for whatever reason.

I flown ATL with ATR no problem there

Sorry to derail this thread, folks ... but does APL cope with Hotel Mode OK? Does it finish the flight when engines are off, or when the beacon light is turned off? I ask because I had a lot of trouble getting penalised with Aviationify. The ATR is one of my favourite aircraft, so if it behaves in APL, I might consider buying it.

Someone asked that in their Discord a month back and it was said that hotel mode does not work, you have to shutdown all engines.

Yes, it finishes when are engine off.  After engine shut down APL doesn't care if left beacon or strobes on, It does care, however, if you have landing light and taxi light left on (prior engine shutdown)

As far as hotel mode for engine start it doesn't affect APL. All it cares is when both engine up and running (beacon must be on)

except that Bob's "motel mode" is obviously the less expensive variant of above hotel mode

I thin in scope of discussion of hotel mode fail,  motel mod would power supply unit 🙂

Yep APL putting pressure on them with lawyers.... Sad...

Not sad.  Do you believe that people should be able to pirate software?

Maybe it *is* sad  - because a company has to divert resources from making their products better just to defend what they rightfully own.

APL took care of the problem.

Now if only APL would take care of the other problem:  and that is the poorly designed Scheduler.   People regularly put suggestions up as to how to fix it, but it never goes anywhere so far, and really a pretty easy fix to add more user control which is what most are after.  Right now, flying for UAL, I pretty much am stuck using Short routes only because my preferred mix of Short and Medium Haul random routes generates 80+% "Medium Haul" which can be anywhere from 600 to 2800nm's for UAL.   I'd like about 20% "Medium", and that meaning 700-1800 or so maximum.  I don't see anything meaningful has been added to APL since I hopped on board some 1500 flights ago.  Oh, they did add the Tool option to select a custom route of your own which is nice, but that avoids adding XP and as you need to use it for each flight if you care to use it as a work around for the schedule .  All in all it's a very good program and I use it for almost all flights.  I've now added Self Loading Cargo which is truly a well thought thru product and it works well w/ GSX and APL for that matter.   SLC adds a whole slew of scoring components that really round out airline flight management, and obviously I highly recommend it.

In my opinion A Pilots Life is the worst piece of software I have ever bought and I had to fight with simmarket to get my money back. This thing is also not worth any penny. An alternative would be highly appreciated.

You can't satisfy everyone. There's a lot of people that like it and use it a lot. I'm one of them.

100% agree Noel. I wish they added more features to the scheduler, things like where do you want to start your schedule when you select continued flights and overall more features allowing you as a pilot more control of where you go per the level of seniority, like in the real life.

Also they need to update their routes more frequently, most of their routes and flight numbers are already out of date since the last update and the last thing on my list is the price of the Company tickets. These are too expensive if you work for United and fly United, in reality you should only pay tax and the ticket is free.

Using an engine as an “APU” is the shortest explanation I can think of.
