MSFS Auto FPS App

@Blaster79, I have updated the app to look for any process name starting with "GPU-Z" to consider that GPU-Z is running, which should solve your original issue. Just to be doubly sure, I have also reintroduced the method I used prior to 0.4.6.1 as a backup detection method, however this one will only work when you are in a flight session just as before.

Can I get you rename your GPU-Z exe back to "GPU-Z.2.68.0.exe", run it then update to 0.4.6.2-RC2, available here or enable + Tests and auto update to it, and confirm that your VRAM+ controls now show at all times. It should now behave like this:

Let me know how it goes. I will likely release this as a hotfix once you have verified it is working correctly. Thanks.

I have renamed the gpu-z exe with the old name, and verified: it is ok now. Thanks for your support!

I was wondering why most times I fly the fps locks at 60 fps (when focus is settled) but once in awhile it settles at 95-100 fps and won't settle at 60fps.  Not sure I see much difference in sim but 60 settled does seem smoother.  It will settle at 60 next time I close and load the sim.  I love this program and wouldn't fly without it but I am the one who just loads it and lets it work.  Thanks

No worries. I had thought I was being pretty safe looking for "GPU-Z" exactly as a process name, but I did so on the basis that MSFS has never strayed from being called exactly "FlightSimulator" and "FlightSimulator2024" for MSFS 2020 and 2024 respectively for the entire time this app has existed, but nope! Anyway, I'll release the hotfix today. Thanks again for raising it and working with me to resolve it.

The FPS the app displays is simply a filtered version of what MSFS, or RTSS if you have chosen that option, is directly reporting to it. If you are using nVidia frame generation, you will experience a difference in displayed FPS between when MSFS is focused or not. This is just the way this type of frame generation is implemented in games and all this app does is faithfully display it.

MSFS_AutoFPS 0.4.6.2 VRAM+ Controls Hotfix has just been formally released, available either through auto update in the app or from here. My thanks goes out to @Blaster79and all others who provided valuable feedback during the test phase.

This Hotfix release improves the reliability of VRAM+ controls by expanding GPU‑Z detection coverage and restoring a GPU‑load‑based fallback.

I was just watching SimHangar's latest youtube video on how to enable DLSS 4.5 and saw that he now seems to be able to set the MFG multiplier for his 5090 in MSFS settings right around the 11 minute mark. ie.

532570381-b7bbe24c-410c-4d6e-bad8-508aa4

In SU3 and earlier this did not work above 2X in MSFS 2024, which is why I had to implement a manual MFG target FPS option in the AutoFPS UI, so it now looks like I might be able to automate detection of MFG, like normal FG, in the app from now on.

As I don't have a 5000 series nVidia GPU, I was wonder if someone who has can get me started with a test version for this. To that end, can someone with a 5000 series nVidia GPU using MFG tell me:

  1. Are you able to control the MFG multiplier in MSFS settings, like SimHanger indicates is possible?
  2. If so, when set this way does MFG behave the same way FG does depending on whether MSFS has the focus or not? ie. is MFG only active and producing your multipler times your native FPS when MSFS has the focus and inactive and producing just the native FPS when MSFS does not have the focus? You will need to enable the MSFS in-game FPS view (dev mode on and view FPS under the debug menu item) and put another window, like AutoFPS on top of MSFS but not obscuring the FPS view to see how MSFS behaves when it does not have the focus.

What I am hoping to hear back is that yes MFG can be controlled in MSFS settings and when MSFS has the focus you get your MFG FPS but when not focused you get native frame rate. eg. if native frame rate is 60 FPS, you see 240 FPS with MFG 4X and MSFS having the focus, and 60 FPS when MSFS is not focused.  Thanks.

Hope it helps. Not exactly sure of what you're exactly looking for as nothing has change once DLSS 4.5 set. It behaves the same as before DLSS 4.5. Whenever I focus on another window than MSFS, the MFG is INOP. As soon as I focus back on MSFS, I regain my MFG. Maybe am I in a specific setup because I have 2 displays.

Yep. And I always did. Personal setting is MFG 2x for months.

The reference I made to DLSS 4.5 was it just happened to be the topic of the video where I found that this setting can go higher than 2X rather than relating to DLSS 4.5 itself.

Re further information, does it do the same when you set for 4X MFG in the MSFS settings? ie. 86.5 ish FPS with MSFS not with focus (ie. NFR) and 4X that = 346 is FPS when MSFS has the focus. I just need to be sure it works the same as 2X at higher multipliers. Note AutoFPS will likely only show 144 ish FPS because that is what I need to update.

Thanks.

Awesome. That's everything I need for now thanks. I'll let you, and anyone else interested, know when the new test build is available to try out that will correctly detect 3X and 4X MFG FPS and show the mode as MFG in the status line.

@Reset XPDR

First of all, thank you very much for your tool. It has served me well in MSFS 2020 with my old hardware. Now I have finally switched to 2024 and was able to upgrade my hardware (9800x3d, RTX 5080, 38 144hz monitor with 3840 x 1600) and am now slowly working my way through the settings.

So far, I've been flying without autofps with a 60 FPS cap, 2x FG, dynamic setting at 60 fps. Not sure if these are good settings, but I haven't had much time to test it yet. My last 1,5 hr flight was nice but with decreasing performance and stuttering after landing and taxiing.

So, with my good experience from 2020 I'd like to go back to AutoFPS, but I've lost focus a bit when it comes to the settings. I've tried to read through the thread, but I still have a lot of questions about all the setting options. In 2020, I always flew without Expert Options, but not sure if this is still the way to go.

Would you say it's okay for now to start with keeping my settings in MSFS as they are now (60 FPS cap, 2x FG, dynamic setting at 60 fps) and AutoFPS with Targte=FG and FPS=120 without "Expert Options"? Somewhere in this thread I saw your recommendation to use Auto Method = FPS Cap. But what are the other correct settings then in "Expert Options"?

Sorry if these questions have already been asked. And thanks for your help.

@vbazillioand anyone else with a 5000 series nVidia GPU willing to help, I have just released 0.4.6.3-test1 available here that aims to auto detect MFG when you have set the MFG multiplier to > 2X within MSFS 2024 settings like this:

image.png?ex=6962e3de&is=6961925e&hm=5ff

As I don't have a 5000 series nVidia GPU, I have had to simulate the detection of a multiplier higher than 2X and it should behave as follows, which you can verify by enabling the MSFS in-game FPS view (Dev mode on and Show FPS under the debug menu):

MFG 4X Inactive (when MSFS does not have the focus):

image.png?ex=6962e381&is=69619201&hm=2ea

MFG 4X Active (when MSFS does have the focus):

image.png?ex=6962e387&is=69619207&hm=9aa

For anyone who tries this, please let me know if:

  1. The MFG multiplier shown corresponds with what you have set in MSFS settings, noting that 2X will show as FG not MFG as MFG does not come into play until 3X or greater.
  2. The FPS readings you see in the app should roughly (due to smoothing the app performs) correspond with what you see on the in-game FPS counter, which will change when MSFS has the focus or not.

Thanks.

Yes. 4x sets in MSFS settings displays MFG 4x in MSFS_AutoFPS.
