The Dreaded MSFS mandatory update (full sim)

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Quick piece of advice before I commit to something I really really do not want to!

I updated the Fenix and then started the sim and was greeted by that wonderful splash screen "Mandatory Update"

Showing me a full 688 gig install...my answer to that was a hard nope! So I reset my pc and tried again, and up it popped again. Going back a year or two I remember someone telling all was not lost in this situation and you did not need to actually do the update, could anyone remind me what I can do to get around this? Happy to try anything but really do not want to have a ten hour ordeal of a download!

I await patiently for a hero!

Go!

This is usually just an error. Try pointing it to your install directory again

Imagine I was a moron...what would the steps be that I should take in order to accomplish this?

Bring up the update screen, change the directory. It’s probably pointing at C:\ so if it’s on another drive that’s why.
I’ve seen it 3-4 times. If you have to, change it to something else, then point it to wherever MSFS is installed, and hit update and it should start checking files.

O my God, I will pray that you find a solution, a 688GB install with 2-3mbps is pure horror 🙏

Hey Mspencer, switched it to the D, although the content folder is in my C drive. It lowered it down to 160 GB, I feel like I am missing something?

Worth maybe emptying the content folder and launching again?

I had a large Mandatory update recently but not as large as yours ... only about 67GB for me.

I’m afraid I have made a rather embarrassing discovery…remember that one time when I told everyone I had a 688 GB update. That may not have been entirely accurate.

It is 688, that was all correct, it’s MB though, misread that small detail!

Apologies all!

Thanks for the help though!

I will leave quietly now.

I installed the Fenix update and then the MSFS update. No problems whatsoever, left all my addons (300Gig) in place, it's also worth noting that the Frame Gen, MSFS AutoFPS and all my mods worked perfectly. I was enroute to Manchester within an hour from intial installation. Don't believe me just watch 😉

Absolutely brilliant!  😆

I'm chuffed to bits for you though that you don't actually have to download 688Gb.  At the current server speeds, I reckon that's be around a 18 hour endeavour!

I was prepared to never fly again! haha

Got to test out the Fenix Block 2 after a about a 25 second download of all those MB's! The annoying thing with MS is that it really doesn't matter your internet speed, its always so slow to update. My internet is 1GB, on a speed test its pretty good, about 800 mbs average. But when it comes to MS, you end up with about 4 if you are lucky!

Some of us, living in the land where the internet was invented, can only have those speeds in any case.
We just have to exercise a little patience.
Remember what that is?

Whoever originally said 'patience is a virtue' was a fool who probably doesn't mind waiting a long time for everything while literally running out of life, and thinks they are being virtuous by saying it.  It is the most stupid of sayings.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.
