The airplane cabins are a little dark in the latest settings.

Hi thanks for your report and glad you see notable diference with the adjustments.

There was no alterations in the parameter that (I think) is involved in diffuse light and the always dark cockpits. I adjust to obtain more 60% diffuse light and, stills the same, since first version.

Still tuning the shaders, looking to reduce the way overdone default haze and generally improving the lighting.

Haze reduction results (default haze, Active Sky off), now clear skies are in fact pretty clear for viewing.

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Cockpit view with Activesky on, using uncharted2 tonemap, haze reduction, Alexandre's TrueSky clouds, modded DHC2 with RXP GTN 750 and Roland's WX radar in use.

Just gotta correct one more thing relating to the horizon shading and I'll be happy with the modded v5.3 colouring schema.

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Cheers

Made some nice updates in volumetric clouds configuration file and small adjustments in HDR with help of Rogen.

There are some adjust in HDR that, in my opinion, depends on personal taste and your monitor.

In line 176 the exposure_bias could be adjust if you see too bright white clouds at the day. In associate with the line 200 the factor plus the exposureBuffer could be rise up if you think your cockpit is little dark.

I have been thoroughly impressed and am enjoying your shader mods. But, there is one exception...it is the dark cockpit panel in Manfred Jahn's DC3. I do know there have been panel shading issues posted by others elsewhere, including the P3D forum.

I hope you can give me some advice on a setting to correct this...thanks...

This is related to the HDR.hlsl file.

Otherwise in Chaseplane is an option to lighten up the cockpit.

Hey @shermank,

I've been working on tuning based on the Uncharted2 tonemapping, available to trial if you'd like.?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Thanks Rogen, I am interested in trying out your work. Currently, I am working with blaunurwahl's suggestions combined with Envshade...but, I am a tweaker, sometimes to my disadvantage...:-)

Envshade does make many changes to many of the shader files where typcially it would assume a default shader set when it initially applies.

These are also based on a default series of shaders, meaning ideally you'd first backup your current ShadersHLSL folder, then replace the contents with default contents, again backup the newly defaulted ShadersHLSL folder, then apply these modified shader files and again backup.

With the multiple backups it is possible to swap easily from one set to another by replacing the contents of the actual ShadersHLSL folder with the contents of the chosen backup.

e.g. 4 x folders

  • ShadersHLSL.default
  • ShadersHLSL.Envshade&Custom (your current shader set)
  • ShadersHLSL.Uncharted2
  • ShadersHLSL  (this is the actual in use folder for cleanout and copy of the backups into for trialling).

Don't forget to clear the shader cache after making changes.

The archive name is "ShadersHLSL_P3Dv5.3.17_v1.1.6_2024-08-11.zip" and can be downloaded here.

The files contain both Alexandre's and my work where there is kind of a fork between our goals as mine was a little different (for example I hated the overwhelming haze even on clear days).

If you want you swap between the Uncharted2 and ACES tonemaps, in HDR.hlsl line 22 is the control definition, just comment or uncomment the line to make the change.

The next thing I intend to look at is the water colour as the default is way too black and doesn't merge well with addon scenery, not too sure what that might involve but we'll see what comes of it.

Any questions please ask and let me know how you get on.

Cheers

P.S. anyone else can also give them a trial if they like.
