How is the Cockspur Phenom (now that the dust's settled)?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if those who own it, can give their views on whether the Cockspur Phenom 100 is any good?

I know it's not "study level" and have a realistic expectation around it.  The WT avionics are obviously a good point in itself... but just wondering how it flies, sounds, etc?

It's on sale for £16 (about $19) hence the question.

It's fine for 15 bucks.  I did a cool paint for it haha.  There's also some really nice ones like the Millenium Phenom N100FZ paint from whiskey throttle

It's fairly basic... sounds are okay.

I'd say its similar to a carenado.

I've seen that plane in person a few times at Oshkosh. That paintjob is amazing.

I keep waiting for the owner to get richer and buy a Falcon to do the same treatment. 😉

I'm not going to buy it because, although it's on sale for £16 on the Marketplace, it's full price (27 Euros) at Cockspur's store and on Simmarket 😡

Imagine paying nearly 30 Euros for it, direct from the dev, then discovering it was 18 Euros on the Marketplace.  I would have thought that if a dev had a product on sale from one vendor at a certain price, they'd reduce it with other vendors too. Clearly not.

Reason is that, the Marketplace version is encrypted and I'd want to do at least a little tweaking; eg. adding the pitch and roll PID reset codes to the autopilot (which makes all APs smooth and realistic to engage, but that few devs bother adding).

I tend to permanently hangar products that aren't up to the quality level I desire, there really isn't an "enjoy it for the price" level.

I have skipped the Phenom, I prefer to fly the Honda Jet and the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet as business jets, they are quite good, I do not feel the need of the Phenom in my hangar 😄

The Phenom 300 has I think a higher range... but is not available for MSFS at a good quality level.

The sounds are far worse than Carenado's birds, no comparison.😳  I wrote Cockspur and they said their using the same sound set they're using for their Mustang.  They also said their working on getting this corrected with a third party sound developer.  Until that happens I've hangered it until Cockspur fixes it and/or we get some sound options created by third party guys.  Outside of sounds the bird is decent.
