@Sparkrite, the TE series were made available in 2019. The EU ones around 2013. Plus the TE file sizes are 3 times larger so it’s clearly a more detailed offering. I’m not bothered about seasons. We don’t get much snow at low levels these days and I can ignore the Scottish Highlands.

Regional and Global OrbX products are just based on generic textures. These texture are a bit better than the default FSX/P3D ones, but it's still a bunch of repetitive and out-of-place generic textures. OrbX TE products are based only on orthophotos (aerial pictures), which means no repetition at all. There's no surprise it's so much heavier than the regional or global products. You get the real ground texture of the real place, not a reused textures with roads starting out of nowhere and ending out of nowhere either.

For me the sceneries based on generic textures became just painful to watch, may it be in FSX, P3D or XPlane. I just don't fly in the regions not covered by ortho photos anyways. Maybe for a liner flight it's ok, but whenever I'm flying literally anything else, ortho is a must.

@Daube, firstly, the dark appearance was resolved by deleting my shaders. 👍

I spend a couple of hours flying around a few locations in a Carenado PC12 and overall I was very pleased with the improved appearance of the terrain. It’s best to stay above 2,000ft otherwise the shortcomings of the design become apparent.

I haven’t tried a flight with my 737 or Lear 25 but I’m sure from higher altitudes it’s going to be a massive improvement. It was easy to spot several football stadiums as well as Wimbledon tennis ground using Little Navmap in Google mode.

I can live with the generic textures in other countries because the roads, rivers, lakes and towns are good enough from altitude. For low level VFR flying the other sim remains the best.

The Netherlands was the first TE with seasons but was a 70GB download, after that ORBX did not include seasons to reduce the file size.

I like the city scenes some developers have out. Jet flying you have some realistic views during departure and approach but climbing to the flight levels tile scenery is best just for the uniformity of color and seasons. You don’t have those border lines between different areas to interfere with immersion.

There is no comparison between TrueEarth and the old FTX region packages. The TrueEarth format is vastly superior. However, I am puzzled. TrueEarth Netherlands was a completely separate package to TrueEarth GB when I used it

I pointed this out to Nick Cooper and he agreed bundling Netherlands was odd. Hence the new offering.

Yes, but why was it bundled together at all? That was never the case when I used P3D. They were completely separate packages. Was it something that was done for P3Dv5 (or v6)??

No idea. Probably a money grab.

I've found discussion on the differences between TE GB and the EU packages over at Orbx. TE it is then despite the lack of seasons. I can live with green countryside all year.

The True Earth scenery is absolutely amazing. If not for the other big sim we would have far more of it available for Prepar3d.

Possibly but its size needs to be taken into account. Around 45Gb for the 3 Great Britain packages. Just as well I have a 4Tb M2 SSD.

It is more like 90 Gb when installed. Fitted on my 1 Gb SSD OK.

That’s clever! I suspect you mean a 1Tb SSD. 😁 I’ll check space tomorrow.

Of course. Fingers (or brain) were too cold (massive storm had just started).

Internet has been out since then, only just come back one hour ago.
