Lossless Scaling: Frame Generation for all games and sims?

Featured Replies

I got a notification in my phone about something doubling (or even tripling) my framerate. After reading it, I saw it was about an app called Loseless Scaling:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/993090/Lossless_Scaling/

Looks like another FG mod. I posted it here instead of the MSFS forum, since it looks it could be used with other sims... which makes it even more interesting.

I've gotta go to lunch with some friends, but after I return, I'll give it a try (it's just $3.50). But has anyone else tried it?

Update: I purchased it and tried it with P3D v5, running at 30 FPS, locked with RTSS. I wasn't sure if it was placebo or not, and both in-sim and RTSS FPS readings were equal, but I felt it was smoother. So, I tried reducing FPS to 20 (which I knew it was going to be jerky) and no, it was really smooth. As soon as I disabled Lossless Scaling, it went back to the usual jerkiness I get with 20 FPS.

I also tried FSX (in DX9 mode)... and it also works there. Now I want to try in FS9 in my laptop, but seems promising. I have yet to try with MSFS in DX11, but it should work.

For those who want to give it a try, please remember that, with this app, the RTSS overlay does not read the generated FPS but the native ones. Also, the lock set there would be the native one (unlike with the FG mod).

Just tried it. It works perfectly. I even tried FSX in my laptop, this time with 3x FG (from 20 to 60 FPS). I managed to get some artifacts in spot view, but getting 3x the framerate is priceless.

What about the CPU / GPU temps in P3D?

Is it meant to work with DX12 only ?

Thx for the thumbs up Luis ! Following this thread ... looks promising 👍

I saw no significant temperature differences in my 5700X3D. I didn't check in my 3060Ti.

Nope: I checked with DX9, DX11 and DX12 and it works. I don't use FSX in DX10, so I couldn't check.

The only caveat I've found so far is that the mouse cursor motion is somehow slowed to native FPS. This may be more noticeable in high refresh rate monitors.

It should. I mean, it works in my laptop iGPU.

At about 10:00 notice the jitter using the familiar frame generation mod (for gpu's that are not Nvidia 4000 series. But with LSFG ($7 on steam), notice there is no jitter at all.

He says with a monitor that only does 60 hertz refresh rate, only use the double frame rate setting. But if monitor can do 120+ hertz, then try the tripple frame rate checkbox instead.

Assuming this has no benefit with RTX 4000 series cards?

With RTX4000, it's simply another option. Specially if you wish to stick with DX11.

Let me try to understand this:

1) I don't want to use DX12, so, can I use it with MSFS 2020 in DX11?

2) I have an RTX 3060 Ti. Am I good to go?

3) My monitor is 60 Hz, and I have VSync with Half Refresh rate ON in MSFS 2020 Graphics, should I stay with it and select 2x in the app to get 60 fps, or can I drop the half option in MSFS, enable VSync, which would give me 60 fps, and still choose 2x in the app - but then it would try to give me 120 fps?

Yes to both. I tested in MSFS too.

If I understood you correctly, do the former. I use RTSS for locking frames (instead of MSFS Vsync) at 30 FPS. With Lossless Scaling at 2x, I end up getting 60.

PS: does LS also work with Aerofly?

I tried it for X-Plane. While the smoothness is great, that added system latency makes it feel sluggish to look around, not a fan of that.

There's where Nvidia's FG at least have the edge, with systems to mitigate that added latency somewhat.
